Is there a place to see if your current results are in any way interesting?
My current unit has a best triplet at 8.06, period 0.7602, a best pulse power of 1.27, and there was another stat that I seem to have lost as the work unit finished as I was writing this.

I've looked through the some of the forums (fora?) and would appreciate a pointer to interesting stats. I recall years ago, that there was a writeup of what to look for.

Why are you posting this question in Science?

Results are definitely interesting when they are available, but is there any difference between the numbers we are supposed to be crunching and the results that we are supposed to be able to achieve?

First of all, computational capability is one thing, next the validity of the numbers themselves, meaning that a given result could be valid as well.

Finally those of us who happen to be around here not forgetting about the scientific gains or achievements which could be accomplished by means of a result perhaps being returned.

Such a result could be having a number of interest, namely those numbers which are thought of as representing a narrowband signal.

Such signals are not thought of as being present or found in space naturally and therefore would indicate the presence of other intelligent beings, if it should ever be detected.

Except for some well-known gaussian scores and the WOW signal, for now we are left to believe about stories about UFO's as being told by other people, or the belief that humans and extraterrestrials are working side by side at places like Area 51 or the similar.

When such a story is becoming generally known, we should be thankful for the "Freedom of Information" act currently present in the United States.

Next it becomes up to you to believe whether or not the whole story or part of it is true.

I'm not sure I understand your reply. I posted this in Science because I'm interested in the results of the number crunching over time. Back in 1999-2001, I had about 5 computers working on the project, with over 20K hours of computer time. I've noted the improvement with today's tech.

But I'm not particularly interested in the tech. There used to be more discussion of the science and of results that were of interest. It was usually serious, but I do recall a deliberately smiley-faced graph.

Coming back to doing work on SETI, I'm interested in what has happened in that 15 year gap in time. I'm looking in Science because I am interested in what the scientific team has found or rejected and why. Most of the rest of the message board system seems to be either social or related to the technology of number crunching, not my interest.

I did read why units are being re-computed given the improved speed of GPU computing and therefore the ability to used a finer-toothed comb.

A related post NOT in science has not garnered any response at all.

Regarding UFO stories, I would find it difficult to credit the ability of my (US) government or any government to keep secret actual ET collaboration in Area 51 or similar for more than 60 years. That does not mean that there hasn't been some highly intriguing bits of evidence or reportage that are not explained even by today's science. My wife, for example, was born in Roswell, NM, to a Lt. Col from the base a mere 18 months after the incident. To this day, she denies that aliens had anything to do with her conception. ;)

Perhaps it could be said this way.

If you are having 15-17 years of experience of doing Seti, it should probably be visible.

To me it has become 12 years and will be 13 years some three months from now.

In that time period, at least three main versions of the client have been used for this purpose, including the recent upgrade to Seti@home v8.

The results for the two first years apparent vanished from my belongings, but the rest of it should be more or less available, but most likely being more or less a mess because of several problems during this period.

The results being returned from the Seti@home client is based on what it is supposed to be doing and the way it is doing such things.

If you happen to be running the client, you most likely would want to know what might have been accomplished.

For such a thing you may want to visit

for more information.

This web-page should be of particular interest when it comes to possible scores.

Also we are having the famous WOW signal which some people believe was a "hype". Other may be having the opinion that this is the best we currently have when it comes to a possible intelligent signal coming from space, but then we are left to the distances of space, which should be measured in light years.

Therefore we could perhaps be having either a belief or hope that intelligent life might be found on Alpha Centauri, or perhaps it rather could be found in a star belonging to a cluster of stars, possibly a globular cluster.

We usually think of space being a hostile place, with no atmosphere, water and also high level of radiation.

Therefore when perhaps thinking of possible UFO observations, we may think of such things as being flying discs.

It may not be impossible to believe that some of these objects may be technological products belonging to civilizations having reached levels of intelligence which far surpasses ourselves.

And the fact might also be that some of these observations could in fact be the real thing as well, meaning that other intelligences are being observed directly.

Whatever our own level of intelligence, there are always those people around who might be asking the question about in what context our own civilization and intelligence should possibly be measured against.

If nature happens to be having both equations for certain things and also laws for some other things as well, we are again left at looking at objects belonging to both the small as well as the large and try relating these things with the events that are part of our ordinary lives, including world.

We happen to be small compared with the stars and galaxies belonging to space, but large when looking at the complexities of atoms and molecules. Each and every problem based on observations on certain phenomena needs to be approached in a way that is proper or suitable to the object that is actually being trying understood.

The smile of Mona Liza might well be a puzzle or enigma which have yet to be understood. For now we likely are relating at least some UFO observations to possible extraterrestrial intelligence and therefore assume that we are not alone in space.

Next, in order to prove such a fact, we probably are back to the question about whether or not the world is composed of quarks rather than protons, neutrons and electrons and the fact that even the objects that might be found in space could also be explained in the same way as well.

Also this once again only becomes part of the whole story.

The most likely reason there is little about results is that, so far, there are no positive results. And negative results don't inspire much enthusiasm about the project. When, and if, there are positive results you won't have to come here to find out about them. I know the likelihood that someone in this project will stumble across the first undisputed signal from an ETI is very low but it is still possible and as long as I am alive and have a computer with an internet connection and as long as this project stays active I will continue to participate.

Fully agree with U, David.
Your post (here below) summarizes quite well what I feel.

"...but I'm not particularly interested in the tech. There used to be more discussion of the science and of results that were of interest. It was usually serious, but I do recall a deliberately smiley-faced graph.

Where to get "scientific" results ??? (not the crunched units)
I posted the same question and proposed a "News of the Month" to be published by Seti@home as Einstein@home started to publish recently.

But I guess S(a)H staff has not the time for it. They are guys like you and me having their job, their family and so on, on the other side. And they are quite a few, I beleive.
How could we help them (and us, then...)?

Cheers
Tiers

There has been a recent announcement from Steve Croft about what might be termed "Son of Nitpicker":
