Hi Guys
Ok so I came to update BOINC yesterday to the latest release, Only to have this error show everytime I try.

The feature you are trying to install is on a network resource that is unavailable.

Click OK again to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package "BOINC.msi in the Box below.

use source
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Installations\{2E996B9C-CC91-475A-A362-589F5EFE15BE}\

As you may see in the above image, below in the bowser I've tried all types, x32Bit & the x64Bit version new & old and now unable to install at all.

Ok so when I try it just keeps telling me it's not a valid .msi installation package. Now When I manually go to that location to check if there's an installer, there is, but it'll not use it, So I direct it to the APPDATA/temp folder where most temp stuff is downed to so I direct it to the install package there, with same results.

I've done the all reset commands via CMD run via Admin, do the normal reboot & try a new download with the same results.

I just can not get it to install, So I thought ok, Re-downgrade to the old version I was using only to be met with all the same results.

I do have & use skype Via voice, if there is anyone that can help via that route.

Thanks kindly guys

Gary

P.S No I don't think there's Aliens on the Moon lol, but Can't rule it out nither.
How can we introduce an Alien Race to the people of Earth, Without the power-hungry Governments of this Planet fighting for control & Technology? all because people Fear what they do NOT Understand!

Thank you kindly for replying so soon Ageless.

Ok Steps, 1,2,3, did not work, though....wait for it lol.. Step 4 did work :)

So Thank you kindly for that link, I was typing in all sorts to try find a solution, though I admit my knowledge in BOINC is slim to say the least.

Is it a good idea installing this on an SSD, My reasoning is, I was kind of under the impression this program makes a lot of writes to disk. Or am I totally incorrect in my thinking.?

Again, Thank you for your swift help.

In the past the client would write all kinds of information to disk every 10 seconds or so, but that is no longer the way with the present versions. Now it's writing the checkpoint file whenever the science applications dictates that (here at Seti about every minute) and general information only around every server contact or when you exit and restart the manager/client.

Still, how many writes can a bit of SSD take these days, a million, more?
They won't fall over immediately, but then it's not really necessary for BOINC or its applications to be on a fast drive. Most calculations happen in the CPU/GPU, and the data can be stored perfectly fine on a slower Hard Drive medium. Well, in my opinion, at least. :)

I totally got that, Thank you.

Also, it's only a 128gb so I guess there nothing really to replace these days, also by the time it'll need replacing the price of maybe a 250gb would be more affordable by then.

Again Jord... Thank you kindly.

I don't think the writes to disk appear to be that frequent that you would gain any advantage by using SSD. Since NAND technology still has a limited number of write cycles to an SSD before the data becomes unreliable and the disk becomes "read-only", I would avoid using SSD if that is possible and/or convenient. Just IMHO.
