Yes, I agree, cosmic rays and other radiation are the show stoppers for long term human exploration of the solar system. I saw where they have found a small bug that can survive huge doses of radiation with no ill effect to it's dna which is self repairing. Now adapt that sequence into the human genome and maybe we have a chance of surviving where we can't now.

To start messing any further than we do already with DNA is the start of a slippery slope , even if it's started with the best intentions .

Maybe a ship would have to be "centrifugal artificial gravity type" for Mars?!
;)

But we simply don't know how much 1/6th of G would influence muscles...until we go there?!

Weird News:

"If you’re behind the moon and hear some weird noise on your radio, and you know you’re blocked from the Earth, then what could you possibly think?"

The crew of an Apollo mission to the moon were so startled when they encountered strange music-like radio transmissions coming through their headsets, they didn't know whether or not to report it to NASA, it's been revealed.

Well, up until the last 50 years, IF you were an alien culture and wanted to keep tabs on the progress of mankind on earth the perfect place to observe from would be the moon. But that is pretty outlandish.

The Apollo 10 astronauts actually heard something, it seems. This odd sound was also reported by the Apollo 11 crew. It appears that some unexpected interaction between the VHF radio transceivers in the command/service module and the lunar module may have been responsible. This wasn't noted during the Apollo 8 mission, but this mission did not include a lunar module. The problem was presumably either corrected, or ignored on later missions.

Yes, perhaps a squelch setting. Very high gain radios can sing especially when there are electrostatic charges on their antenna's.

8 wouldn't have had a rendezvous radio that was turned on, 10 and 11 did, fixed for 12 and up?

I just saw this, maybe it deserves it's own thread.

The recordings and transcripts were classified until 2008 or something. Interesting stuff, doesn't really mean anything at first glance, though. Wonder what kind of analysis can be done with the tapes. Probably can't determine origin since they're just audio from radio. With our accumulated knowledge of radio astronomy, maybe can see if it's similar to known natural radio signals, or human signals, or artifacts of both kinds in that particular setting.

Lynn that is the Huff post, you know the home of the tinfoil hat brigade, and conspiracy freaks. Just because many people want it to be true doesn't mean it is.

Most of the article appears to be parroting a segment from some History-Channel-like TV "docutainment" series. But ordinary artifacts on the interaction of their equipment in a unique setting is probably the most likely explanation, before untestable explanations are considered.

It's kind of funny how the video segment follows the similar format of all those ancient aliens other other docutainments. Mysterious music, serious and dramatic narrator, offer just enough information to make it sound like they've considered ordinary explanations, but end on a more sensational theory.
