I'm new to BOINC (well, did it a few years ago for a short period) and use it on a HP laptop with LM 17.2 XFCE ... I have 2 projects, SETI and Rosetta, but none of them starts up from suspension (PC in use). I changed a few settings but with no luck. When I change option to work also when in use it immediately starts doing the job. What can be wrong?
Sorry for my bad English, I'm Flemish.

Your BOINC version is the culprit in this. It happens a lot that the idle-detection in BOINC on Linux gets broken due to changes in a Linux distro. Such as where it worked in one version, but then doesn't anymore in the next.

The latest BOINC version with the latest change of the idle detection was in BOINC 7.3.1, so would've been available in BOINC 7.4.xx
But due to a long standing problem with wxWidgets not building correctly under Linux, the Berkeley developers never built any BOINC 7.4 versions. They still don't build any BOINC 7.6 versions, the branch we're presently in. If you want one of those, which of course also have that idle detection fix, you'll have to check if there is a newer version for your distro, or else use one built by third parties, like Gianfranco Costamagna (locutusofborg).

Thank you for your reply, as my distro has boinc 7.2 I'm afraid I have to leave boinc then. I already removed it from the laptop. Maybe I can try the version of Gianfranco, but I have no idea where to look for it. Please inform me if you know. Thanks!

... but I have no idea where to look for it.

In a search engine, perhaps? It's what I do.

Googling "boinc linux mint ppa", I find:
https://launchpad.net/~costamagnagianfranco/+archive/ubuntu/boinc

There's also https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/boinc

And with "boinc linux mint debian ppa" I find:
https://packages.qa.debian.org/b/boinc.html

The above can also be found if you Google "boinc linux mint debian", because one of the links is https://wiki.debian.org/BOINC

Many thanks, I found it and installed version 7.6. It seems to work the way it is intended :)

Well, one remark: an usb mouse can't stop boinc from working, I need to hit the keyboard or the touch-pad ... but that is only a minor issue.
