Message 1747768 - Posted: 8 Dec 2015, 23:27:29 UTC - in response to Message 1747763.

Unfortunately, the AP info was deleted when the MBs started running. This is all I could obtain from the Stderr.txt file...

I will wait for another AP to come in, and then I will grab the Stderr.txt from that unit. It may be awhile, though...

...And, no, I'm not having issues with MB, just the AP. I've implemented Mike's Command Line, and now Unroll should be 8 for Farragut, ID 7066606.

Thanks Raistmer. :-)

TL

Stderr is available in the slot folder only for 'Active' tasks (currently running, or waiting to run) - as soon as you abort a task, stderr is transferred to the website and the slot is cleaned ready for reuse. There are typically multiple slots in use - make sure you get the right one.

It looks like AP tasks are splitting right now, so you might get lucky and snag one.

Looks like you got task 4582738291. If you could harvest stderr from the slot folder, that would be most helpful (it may have progressed too far to display the other way - only the final 64KB is shown on the website, and the stuff Raistmer needs is near the start).

Hi Mike...yes one core reserved for each AstroPulse OpenCL (when i have one).
Now i'm using "unroll 4" parameter.

Marco.

You're right; and, I Suspended all the other MBs to get this AP started.

Looks like it's having trouble reading back and restarting after a checkpoint. That's Raistmer's department - wait for him to drop by.

Now try unroll 4.
If same error with unroll 4 then try different driver version if available. If not or doesn't help turn AP processing on iGPU OFF and use it for MultiBeam only.

EDIT: And if you have inclination and ability to try different standalone builds we could try build or 2 on new year holidays, hardly earlier.

Nope. GPU doesn't involved in checkpoint resume at all. It's issue with main loop GPU buffer readback. Sometimes it appears on NV cards also. Changing unroll is the main cure for now.

Unfortunately, Intel WON'T provide me an alternate driver to the MS stock driver. I've tried, several times; even installed, (from Intel site), a Driver Updater Utility which is supposed to scan the ENTIRE system and tell me what Intel hardware is there, and what drivers need to be updated. All this tool showed me was the on board BlueTooth and one other piece of hardware; BUT, NO Updates for Video. :-(

I will now try Unroll 4 and see if it will pick up and run. If not, I will abort the Unit and reinstall Lunatics and NOT have AP running.

TL

PS: As to "playing" around with other settings, or installing other tools; I'm NOT comfortable with my limited skills and limited knowledge to do this. I'm afraid I'll REALLY screw something up!!! :-O

[EDIT]

Here is the Updated Stderr.txt (Unroll 4 did set after awhile... Still, Unit runs EXTREMELY Slow in processing. Estimated time is NOT dropping down in real, or semi-real time. Instead, after several minutes of processing, the estimated time jumps and drops down roughly 10 Min. Likewise, Percentage completed jumps only slightly every 10 minutes of crunching.

I REALLY don't think this card is suited for APs. :-(

I find it interesting that you can find these; but, when I searched COULDN'T find anything - thus, chose to install the Intel Driver Update Utility. (Which, btw, I reran after your post, and it STILL does NOT show a Driver Update for my 530 GPU... VERY DISAPPOINTING!!!)

Thank you for the link. :-)

I think my point was that *every* error we've seen has come after a

line - so at least one complete DM chunk has been completed successfully, and *then* the app has been restarted, necessarily requiring a reload from the checkpoint files (GPU apps not kept in memory, and all that). I agree the stderr trace doesn't help us know how long after the restart the crash occurs - perhaps TL could help us with a section of BOINC's message log to show, on average, how long the AP task runs before it vacates the premises and lets MB have the floor again?

@Woohoo,

That Driver is INCOMPATIBLE with Farragut, Computer ID: 7066606. This computer is an HP Envy Desktop 750-167c; AND, there is NO GPU DRIVER UPDATE for this computer.

The Driver you found crashed my system; and generated and install error stating it is NOT for this computer.

Apparently, this GPU is governed by the mandates of HP. As such, HP MUST release a new driver. WHEN that will happen is anybody's guess; MAYBE NEVER!!! :-(

Looks like it's having trouble reading back and restarting after a checkpoint. That's Raistmer's department - wait for him to drop by.

Nope. GPU doesn't involved in checkpoint resume at all. It's issue with main loop GPU buffer readback. Sometimes it appears on NV cards also. Changing unroll is the main cure for now.

This was my idea also.

I think my point was that *every* error we've seen has come after a

### Restart at XX.XX percent.

line - so at least one complete DM chunk has been completed successfully, and *then* the app has been restarted, necessarily requiring a reload from the checkpoint files (GPU apps not kept in memory, and all that). I agree the stderr trace doesn't help us know how long after the restart the crash occurs - perhaps TL could help us with a section of BOINC's message log to show, on average, how long the AP task runs before it vacates the premises and lets MB have the floor again?

Well, it was getting too painful to watch the AP Unit progress SOOOO SLOOOOWLY. So, I aborted it, Suspended BOINC, Exited BOINC, reran Lunatics 0.43b installer and only chose MBs to run.

VERY DISAPPOINTING!!! :-(

With prior Threads about how slow these Intel GPUs are; I HIGHLY recommend NOT using them at all. Especially after these issues that I've gone through.

Thanks, though, everyone for your support and assistance. :-)

I would recommend downloading and installing HP's driver again 10.18.15.4271 Rev.A

NOT going to do it!!! I will stick with waiting for a REAL driver from HP; if/when they come out with it. Apparently this isn't a typical/standard Intel 530 GPU; it is under certain specification of HP, and as such, THERE IS NO CURRENT UPDATE!!!

Well, would be interesting if some with similar iGPUs could drop few lines about how they deal with AP tasks.

I have no such hardware to check locally.

Well, I performed the Update via Device Manager --> Intel 530, Update Driver.

Prior to updating, it had the Driver you list above; NOW, it is Driver 20.19.15.4312 from 10-28-2015... BOINC still crunching after Resuming from Driver Update.

Still, will leave Lunatics as MB cruncher only on this card.

TL

[EDIT:]

Hit Update on BOINC and went to Computers Link in BOINC, reviewed new settings on Farragut - ID: 7066606, and this new Driver changed the amount of RAM being used by the Intel 530. Instead of the original 1.5 GB; NOW, it is over 4 GB RAM. I don't know if this will make a difference in crunching, though.

However; since it is using Computer RAM to do this; NOW, instead of 10+ GB reserved for the system, it is around 8 GB reserved for the system.
