Got home from work, checked my systems for more of the automatic Invalids to find my C2D crunching away on a WU for over 4.5 hrs with 0% done & time to completion getting hours larger by the second. So I aborted it. 26ap11ab.14036.75409.13.12.85 Stderr output. <core_client_version>7.6.6</core_client_version> <![CDATA[ <message> aborted by user </message> <stderr_txt> Build features: SETI7 Non-graphics FFTW USE_SSSE3 x86 CPUID: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz Cache: L1=64K L2=4096K CPU features: FPU TSC PAE CMPXCHG8B APIC SYSENTER MTRR CMOV/CCMP MMX FXSAVE/FXRSTOR SSE SSE2 HT SSE3 SSSE3 ar=2.731026 NumCfft=99649 NumGauss=0 NumPulse=55701373479 NumTriplet=55701373479 In v_BaseLineSmooth: NumDataPoints=1048576, BoxCarLength=8192, NumPointsInChunk=32768 Windows optimized S@H v7 application Based on Intel, Core 2-optimized v8-nographics V5.13 by Alex Kan SSSE3xjf Win32 Build 2549 , Ported by : Raistmer, JDWhale SETI7 update by Raistmer Work Unit Info: ............... Grant I don't know if this will help you but I did look carfully at the stdrr first so if it's wrong some one will correct me . I noticed you have a few of them . Windows 32 bit is a bautch when you have more than 4 gb of memory . See if this is helpful Since only a maximum of 4GB virtual memory address range is available in Windows Vista, which are sub-divided or allocated some memory address range to manage both the computer’s PCI memory address range (also known as MMIO) which used for system video graphics cards, BIOS, IO cards, networking, PCI hubs, bus bridges, PCI-Express, and RAM, so the amount of available RAM is always less than 4 GB. BIOS takes up about 512 KB, with video or graphic accelerator card needs memory address for at least the amount of memory on the graphics card. Which mean if you have 256 MB VRAM graphic card, at least 256 MB already been used up from your 4 GB memory available to Windows Vista. The net result is that a high performance x86-based computer may allocate 512 MB to more than 1 GB for the PCI memory address range before any RAM (physical user memory) addresses are allocated. So the typical available RAM for the OS will be reduced to between 3 GB and 3.4 GB. Your GPU has 2gb and you have 2.8gb of Ram ?? |

Grant I don't know if this will help you but I did look carfully at the stdrr first so if it's wrong some one will correct me . Yep. The system has 4GB of RAM, but it also has 2*2GB video cards. The end result is only 2.8Gb are available to the system. When I had just the one 1GB video card, there was 3.5GB available to the system. Grant Darwin NT |

Yeh that's the prob mate . It will work but you get it trying to write to memory that it can't use . When I looked at the file somewhere it saw it trying to write to somewhere then I looked at your memory . 32 bit is a PITA You'll have to upgrade the OP or limit how many units it does and expect the odd 1 , until you can get the 64 bit vers Vista can be a PITA |

It's just a thought Grant, but I started getting very similar behaviour not long back so have you tested the memory and drive/s for any errors? (an 8yr old data that SETI was on was my problem). Cheers. |

Pretty sure I had the issue on my i7 system as well, but I can always do a men check and chkdsk next time I reboot. It could also be heat relsted- the present crappy weather has both systems running hotter than they've ever been. Temperature indoors doesn't drop below 30 over night and is generally around 34-35.5 for most of the day. Grant Darwin NT |

I turned mine off while we had that heat wave or only run it very late . Time for a Air-Con mate or move down south :-) |

Memory & storage both checked out OK on both systems. I'd forgotten how slow HDDs were. My i7 with 2*SSDs, 15min for chkdisk to do it's thing. The old C2D with 2*HDDs, over 4hrs. Grant Darwin NT |

Grant I know people think I'm stupid but I did read your sterr file as I said . It was while I read it that I first thought you may have a problem with your Ram or HD and then I noticed your running Vista while I was reading the file and then I realised after checking what you had that it's probably the fact you have to much Ram and that is what the error was it's trying to write to memory windows is preventing it from using . You need to remove 1 off the ram modules if your going to run the 2 cards . 2 gig should be enough just . My Quad only has 2 gig of ram and is doing 3 units AP on the CPU at the moment a 1 unit on the GPU and the machine is running WIN 7 64bit It is currently using 1.06gig of ram so you should be ok with just 2 gig although you may wish to stop a lot of programs from starting up on start up if it's using a little to much ram . You can have to much memory in your machine . When you do this strange things can happen and not only with Seti@Home So wiggo if you had the same errors was it your Ram or HD that had a problem ?? |
