I am using Mac OS 10.10.5. I have just downloaded the update for BOINC, 7.6.11 Since I downloaded it, the screen saver only shows statistics and the fact that the computer is participating on SETI. it does NOT show the old rotating box with the columns etc etc. The BOINC manager is open on my dock. It only causes clutter. I used to be able to quit the BOINC manager and the screen saver would still function. Now, when I quit the BOINC manager, the screen saver no longer functions. Please help! |

Since I downloaded it, the screen saver only shows statistics and the fact that the Please confirm that you have the BOINC Screen Saver Options in the Screen Saver pane of System Preferences set correctly to Run project screensavers, and that BOINC is not suspended when the screensaver is running. Also, please confirm that you see the project graphics if you select a running task in the Tasks tab of the BOINC Manager and click on Show Graphics. (You will need to set the Activity menu to Run Always to enable this button.) I used to be able to quit the BOINC manager and the screen saver would still function. Now, when I quit the BOINC manager, the screen saver no longer functions. What does the screensaver say about BOINC? Does it say "BOINC is not running" or something else? If your Mac has an NVIDIA GPU, do you have CUDA installed, and which version of CUDA? Charlie Fenton BOINC / SETI@home Macintosh & Windows Programmer |

I've check the screen saver preferences and it's the same as before. Yet when I got to the screen saver it says that it's running Seti@home and with a progress bar below showing the time elapsed and the time remaining. Below that it shows the app running and the task. Prior to this update it had always shown the actual Seti@home screensaver. |

That sounds like the generic BOINC screen saver, and it kicks in when there's no graphics to be processed. By any chance, is the workunit that is being processed show a status of something like "Running (0.04 CPUs + Intel HD GPUs (device 0))"? If so, that is because you are using your graphics chip to process data, and the SETI science application for the GPU does not have graphics. |

In BOINC Manager, in the Advanced view, under the Tasks tab. |

In BOINC Manager, in the Advanced view, under the Tasks tab. Nope, doesn't show any of that information except for Astropulse, which is suspended due to GPU preferences not allowing it to run at the moment. None of the settings are different from when I had the last version of Boinc. |

Charlie Fenton asked you this: "Also, please confirm that you see the project graphics if you select a running task in the Tasks tab of the BOINC Manager and click on Show Graphics. Charlie Fenton asked you this: The project graphics is grayed out. Very strange. |

Charlie Fenton asked you this: The graphics button is greyed out when it is a GPU app. Are you sure it doesn't say anything about GPU in the Status column? What about the Application column? You may have to expand it to see the entire line. |

It says nothing about it being a GPU app. As I said, astropulse uses the GPU and only runs periodically. I can get it to start whenever I want by setting GPU to always run. However, the regular SETI tasks all of the sudden won't show the screensaver graphics. |

OK, I'll have to defer to Charlie Fenton, the main Mac developer on this. I see in your account some of the workunits are v7.07 (ssse3) and v7.07 (avx). I'm wondering if these are new Mac CPU applications that don't have graphics. |

Of course, now I got frustrated at it and decided on the spur of the moment without really thinking to reset the entire project. Now it refuses to download new tasks, deferring communication and the event log says: "Scheduler request failed: couldn't connect to server" and then: "Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down" Yeah, I know, it didn't make sense to reset everything, but I was getting frustrated and hoped that it might have been a glitch with the tasks or something (I hate it when things don't work). |

There are problems with the servers of this project, and that of BOINC. We all have those problems, so resetting doesn't fix anything in that respect. Charlie posted a new recommended BOINC version for the Mac yesterday that fixes further problems with the screen saver. I'll post the download links, but as I said, at the moment everything is down, so you cannot download it now. Try again later, or tomorrow. - boinc_7.6.12_macOSX_x86_64.zip - boinc_7.6.12_x86_64-apple-darwin.zip - boinc_7.6.12_macOSX_SymbolTables.zip |

The project graphics is grayed out. Very strange. Did you remember to set the Activity menu to Run Always to test this? If the button is grayed out when you select a task by clicking on its line in the display and the Manager shows that the task is running, it means that project application does not have an associated graphics app, so the screensaver can't show graphics for that task. There are still router problems at UCB campus which cause the problems of people not being able to reach the BOINC server, but there are also people unable to reach the Seti server. At this moment I can reach the BOINC domain, so you should be able to do so as well. Can't say how long this window is going to last. |

Can you ask whoever is responsible for the 'Applications' page or the script which generates it if it's possible to add a column which say e.g. "graphics" for apps that have it?: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/apps.php  - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :)  |

I was able to download the new version of Boinc, however I am still unable to access the server for tasks. |
