I recently got a top of the line Mac, and I would like to set it up optimally for SETI@home. Any suggestions?

When I installed SETI about 5 weeks ago my main concern was trying to do to much to fast and overheating my CPU.

I suggest, before running SETI, that you look for a Mac CPU temp monitor. You will also need to know your CPU specs. I don't use a Mac so I can't help you there. Once you know the temp limit for your CPU you can then intelligently test the SETI software.

On your 'Setup' page there is a way to try different 'load' settings for number crunching. Start maybe at the 75% level and watch your CPU temp; how close is it to the max allowed? Back DOWN if you're too close. I use the lowest setting I found, about 25%, and it works fine.

Use the settings you feel safe with. Don't try to find ET in a week all alone! :))

The Mac CUDA App is still in testing and hasn't even made it to BETA yet. There is a nVidia OpenCL App at Beta but some machines don't respond well with it. If you are willing to switch to Anonymous platform I would suggest installing the CUDA App which works well with Mavericks & Yosemite. The CUDA App has been around for a while and my tests with an old GTS 250 last year produced nothing but valid tasks, not a single Invalid or Error. Current tests with a GTX 750Ti has also produced No Invalids or Errors over Thousands of tasks. There is also a New Mac AVX CPU App that works much better than what you are using. You could install that with the CUDA App.

It depends if you are willing to manually install Apps in OSX...

It seems the Mac is working better with the New AVX CPU App. Those times aren't bad, http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/results.php?hostid=7734945&offset=180, although the New iMac is a little more impressive, http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/results.php?hostid=5085681&offset=200
Hmmm, Shorties in 21 Minutes? VLARs in less than an Hour?

Now if you could just get that MAC CUDA App installed all would be well. You can see how a PC GTX 750Ti works in a MAC here, http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/results.php?hostid=6796479&offset=260

There aren't any adjustable settings on the CPU or CUDA Apps...
