I recently installed a EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti with 6GB GDDR Memory. my boinc account lists the computer with "GeForce GTX 980 Ti (4095MB)" so 2 GB missing here... GPU-Z and other tools do show the correct 6 GB. is this caused by any setting or is this "just" false recognized by boinc? Georg PS: affected Computer ID: 7576098 |

It's a 32-bit vs. 64-bit addressing issue. I don't know of any BOINC project that issues tasks which, individually, require more than 4 GB of memory. If you don't need to use more RAM than 32 bits can address, it's actually more efficient to use 32-bit addressing - GPU data transfers are, by comparison with everything else, rather slow. So everyone's kept to the lower standard. |
