I have a MacBook Pro 2014 with a flash drive and running OS 10.10.4.

On all my other MacBook Pros, Boinc Screen Saver runs well but on this new Mac Boinc fails to load. I have posted the issue on the Boinc discussion page but apparently no one is home. The latest Boinc message in Apple discussion was in 2012.

I have this problem. Mostly, I get "Download failed" but I also get GPU error is "GPU missing, GPU suspended - computer is in use (0.374 CPU + ATI GPU (missing))".

I have tried 10.10.5 but went back to 10.10.4 in hope that this might solve the problem. I also reinstalled Boinc several times. I have a desktop with 10.10.4 running Boinc successfully for years.

My reason for posting here is my feeling that this forum might help is that it is a new computer and with a flash drive. Boinc software just may not be compatible.

I have been a Apple Discussion user for considerable number of years so if the question needs help, let me know.

Can any one help?

Both your computers show they downloaded work, but only the i7-4980HQ shows all work returns as error while downloading.

Although Seti's gone through a lot of breakages, fixes and DNS changes lately, all that's fixed and shouldn't give you download problems.

About your other system missing the AMD GPU, when you see problems like that, (re)install the drivers for the GPU.

You asked on the BOINC forums about error 13066, which seems to be an authentication problem. All pointing in the direction of permission problems, for which a reinstall of the OS/drivers is needed. Perhaps you need to run the security script available from that link in the Wiki.

What I don't understand is why Apples drivers don't work/ why Berkley doesn't fix the problem.

I realize it may not be a Boinc problem but we are talking about a brand new computer and the latest software (both Apple and Boinc).

I tried looking for the AMD GPU drivers but could not find anything.

Tell me more on resolving error code 13066.

Ok, things are happening different now. Meaning there is still a problem of not running.

I uninstalled Boinc and re-installed it (the latest). When trying to the URL web site, Boinc manager states http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ URL is not recognized. In fact, when attempting to retrieve any site, the response was the same.

I retrieved Boinc data from the trash and placed it back into its original removed location in ~Lib/App Sprt. Boinc/SETI@home is not running.

Has anyone looked into none of Boinc's sub software, or URL linked software not running on an 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 with Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB Graphics computer?

Berkeley is kinda big, and the entire campus doesn't provide free support to SETI@home just because it resides on their campus.

SETI@home doesn't fix the problem because there's a total of about 5 people on the project, 2 of which are part time, and none of them are paid for SETI work anymore.

Further, even if they were paid, they are scientists who specialize in writing science applications to complete their work. They would not be able to devote the time to learning how to write device drivers, testing them, and fully supporting them (as they would be wont to do if they made them and not Apple). SETI doesn't even fix drivers for Windows boxes whenever there's a bad driver.


I can't really help you with your problem because I don't use Apple and know little to nothing about them, but I thought I'd at least explain to you the answers to your above questions/comments/concerns so you know why things are the way they are (I've learned in my many years in IT Support that you have to set expectations appropriately).

Thanks for your effort but it doesn't help to know that something that worked fine, no one want to support.

Since Macs are the future, I am surprised anyone still has them.

I don't know if I'd call Macs "the future", but certainly they have their place in the present and future.

And it's not that no one wants to support them. Apple supports them. But crunching on the GPU is not high on the things Apple concerns itself with.


By the way, did you try Ageless' suggestion to re-install the drivers? Ageless provided several options for you to try to fix the problem yourself but your only comment was that you think Berkeley should fix them.

Why does AstroPulse suspend every time It runs on my Macs' with OS 10.10.5 or 10.10.4 - An iMac and the latest Macbook Pro?

Make sure that Suspend when non-BOINC CPU usage is above N% is set to a sufficient number. The default 25% may give problems.
Also, since these Astropulse run on your GPUs, check the status of the Suspend GPU computing when computer is in use preference.
