I add text in the two boxes in the "about me" section - describe myself, and why I'm with SETI, hit the create/edit profile button, and get the error message you see above.

I'm using firefox 39. I don't see any captcha on that page. I've refreshed the page several times.

At the bottom of the page is a tick box next to a recapture message - you have to tick that box.
Not exactly what you were expecting!
