I stopped using Skype when Microsoft took over Skype, and turned it into something else than it originally was. But thank for the warning Chris.

So that's why Skype has suddenly begun showing up in the tray on my i5 box after an Update. Going to purge it from my system in the morning. Thanks much.

After this incident, I did read an article where many Skype accounts had been spoofed. There should be an update coming out at some point, but the advice I read was anyone who has their Skype account spoofed, should change their password. From my understanding, the spoofing is terminated by changing the password. I tend to make my new passwords 12-15 characters long with upper case, lower case, numbers and symbols. That makes it very hard to guess, so I have to keep them in a secure manner off line.

I don't think I even have a Skype account.

I would like to point out to Facebook users that its Messenger subsystem (now a separate app on phones and tablets) now has voice and video abilities which work fairly well. (I do try to limit video use to times when I'm connected to wifi, and keep audio brief when I'm not. I don't have unlimited data on my phone.)

Skype is a fairly secure service that many people use. I think that getting your Skype account hacked is about as likely as someone breaking into your e-mail. With the recent Microsoft Account link on Skype User names, it is basically the same as having your e-mail hacked. I believe that many people who fall victim to e-mail account hacking have often used their e-mail as a sign in and the same password on another not so trust worthy site. But that's just my opinion. In all of the time I can recall I have never had any security issues with Facebook, Skype, or any e-mail accounts that I can remember. Perhaps I have just been lucky?

That very well may be James, but I thought it best to err on the side of caution. Quite apart from protecting my street cred!

Very valid point!

Message 1707178 - Posted: 31 Jul 2015, 23:44:52 UTC - in response to Message 1702443.

I have been informed today that a fellow Setizen has received a Skype message, apparently from me, giving links that lead to infected web sites. I have not used my Skype account for many months, so I can safely say that they did not, and would not, have come from me.

My skype account appears to have been compromised, so accordingly I have changed the password. If anyone else receives a similar message purporting to be from me, please delete it and ignore it.

Thank you.

Was the site mentioned by the Setizen a supposed Google Plus site?
