Because there is still a Task associated with this Work Unit that has not been completed. This is a known issue with the Validators.

What appears to have happened is your original wingmate missed deadline, and a 3rd Task was issued. Then, the original wingmate reported, and the Validators validated the Results. But since there is still a Task outstanding, the Transitioners cannot delete the Work Unit from the BOINC Database, so it stays on your computer's Task Page until the last Task Completes and Reports. Once that happens, it should drop off 24 hours later.

Thanks,Donald!

So for my initial wingmate the task was validated, even though he missed the deadline by a long time?

Yes, that's how it works. Even though he missed deadline, he was the next to finish after you - first two successful completions trigger the Validators. If you look at the Tasks - click for Details column, and click on your or his Task Number, you will see that the original deadline was 30 May. He missed it, the server declared the Task Timed-Out, and resent it to the 3rd host. The 3rd host appears to be what some of us call a drive-by, who joined the project, got a few Tasks, them never came back. That host last contacted the server on 30 May, probably when it got the resend. His deadline is 13 July, so if he doesn't come back before then, it will time out. I had one just like that a couple weeks ago - once the _2 task timed out, it was not resent, and dropped off my list 24 hours later.

And as predicted, the _2 Task timed out on 13 July, was not resent, and the entire Work Unit has been deleted from the Database and your Tasks List.

This task was hanging around for too long.
