With the SETI scheduler down, and my work units dwindling (only keep 1 days worth of work units in the queue), I looked around some. einstein@home suggested it was upgrading and comming close to opening it's doors to the public. They also warned things might be, somewhat problematic over the next week as they transition. This was last Monday...

Their web page doesn't even come up today

http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu

Predictor of course doesn't allow account creation yet...

If this goes on too much longer, my boinc client is going to be hungry for work, without another project to feed it ;)

Take a look at Climate Predictor http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/

Their WU take a Loooong time compared to Seti/ProteinPredictor/LHC/Pirates, so you should be able to crunch through almost any drought [vbg]

They do have substatially higher machine requirements tho -

This morning, they put a message up saying they were about to go down to replace their old server with a new, higher powered one they needed for the public launch...

About 2 hours after I saw it, they went down.

So, tomarrow I guess? Seems the Berkely hour might be contagious. Anyhow, I decided to reduce the CPU time BOINC gets (increase that for folding@home) until this gets resolved from about 50% for BOINC to 40% now. Hopefully, my computer can stay occupied all night...

Einstein@home was AFAIK expected to shut down 07 UTC today and be down for half a day or something, while doing upgrades.

Since they're not accepting any new users for the moment it's not really an option anyway, before their launch.

It mentioned that after they went back up, though it was down all yesterday. Sounded like it was going down again, and in fact looks that way right now as the page was up for awhile then went back down.

Can't get the message, but from the sound of it they were getting ready to open up, and this week is when I've been left with the impression they're getting ready to launch, or move to the next step...these upgrades being in part preperation for that. Was waiting for that, and also signed up for a beta test user (another link) about last month, and before some of these announcements :D

thx for info...
