I think this says a lot. For those not familiar with it, Mike has taken those figures - which are a current/recent snapshot only - from the Applications page. It's interesting to summarise them: Multibeam ---------- CPU 238,175 GigaFLOPS Nvidia 189,259 ATI 36,635 Intel_GPU 13,120 Astropulse ---------- CPU 191 GigaFLOPS Nvidia 737 ATI 388 Intel_GPU 67 You can tell we've not been doing much AP recently... |

My main i5 rig runs all 4 cores while feeding its 2 GPU's 3 tasks each while my other i5 rig runs 3 cores while feeding its 3 GPU 2 tasks each. I only do MB's on my GPU's while I'll run AP's on my CPU cores when I can get them, MB's otherwise. I'll let my RAC do the talking, need I say more? Cheers. |

Richard. Seti V7 is only available for 2 years so its a valid point. @Wiggo. I could but don`t want to. With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

It is like saying: "Ban all bicycles: Cars are much faster and can carry more." They have their place and value and nobody - except ignorant people -would doubt that. |

BTW: I'm still waiting for quantum computers. Was hoping to get one for free for my participation in Aqua@home but until now they didn't send it :-( |

For those not familiar with it, Mike has taken those figures - which are a current/recent snapshot only - from the Applications page. It's interesting to summarise them: Which tells us the work being done between CPUs & GPUs comes out pretty even right now. CPU 49.912089% GPU 50.087910% It is interesting to take the totals from the MB app averages & then figure in the 170,150 active hosts. The average SETI@home host is a system with a CPU producing 1.401029 GFLOPs & GPU producing 1.405965 GFLOPs. Using the data from the CPU models list. Here are some of the CPUs that fall in that performance range:
Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.93GHz [Family 15 Model 3 Stepping 4] AMD Athlon(tm) XP Processor 3000+ [Family 15 Model 12 Stepping 0] My averages are obviously skewed. Given several things. Like active hosts that only run AP instead of MB, & the percentage of hosts that have a useable GPU by SETI@home. However I still found it interesting. SETI@home classic workunits: 93,865 CPU time: 863,447 hours Join the [url=http://tinyurl.com/8y46zvu]BP6/VP6 User Group[ |

I'm Letting My Rac Do Da Talkin'. 'It' Says: I Don't Give A Shat. CPU, for me, means. less Energy and Less Heat. WinterTime I Let My HeatPump and Under 40 Degrees, My Oil Burner Do Da Talkin'. 115 Volt CPU or GPU 'Heat', Don't 'Klik' with me. Dat's Why I Run CPU. Got 'it'? GOoD. It is like saying: "Ban all bicycles: Cars are much faster and can carry more." Nope....I'm saying: "bicycles r OK, but lately all bicycles come with el.motor or u can buy a full motorcycle...so why use bicycle?" also, some could check total sum of CPUs, & total sum of GPUs...I bet there are fewer GPUs than CPUs... ;) non-profit org. also, some could check total sum of CPUs, & total sum of GPUs...I bet there are fewer GPUs than CPUs... Every computer has a display, so it has at least 1 gpu and 1 cpu. But some people put 2,3,4 or more GPUs in one computer. Therefore more GPUs out there than CPUs. An i mean physical chips, not cores or virtual cores. If you count those, that makes the number of GPUs even bigger relative to CPUs. |

I saw your profile KLiK your average is not that high considering you are using gpu only. Myself Im running almost only cpu considering my gtx 570 is to noisy. Btw this is My first post been running seti since 1999. ;-) big fan of the X-files |

Guy The Great Said: 10) Running one CPU only computer allows me to remain attached to seti@home in a minimal way. Hey Guy, Long Time No Read. GOod To See Your Type 'Face' Again. also, some could check total sum of CPUs, & total sum of GPUs...I bet there are fewer GPUs than CPUs... as opposed to those that don't have a viable GPUs 4 crunching...or don't do GPU calcs, 'cause they GPUs r power GOBLINS that consume like a stows! :D non-profit org. I have a ulefone smart phone that has 8 processors and runs both SETI@home and Einstein@home CPU tasks. It has also an onboard GPU which is now not used. Tullio |
