Pubs are shutting down all over the UK every day of the week. In a recession it is cheaper to drink at home with alcohol from supermarkets at virtually cost price. People wont pay to socialise any more. I don't think I've ever seen a bar go out of business in my neck of the woods, but I get your point. The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

Berni Inn not Bernie :-) And my you are a bit out of date. The Berni Inn chain was sold to Grand Metropolitan for £14.5m in 1970 and then sold to Whitbread in 1995, who converted the outlets into their own Beefeater and Brewers Fayre restaurants. -:) |

armchair alcoholics ;~) Funny. I don't know how much a license to sell beer is in Louisville, but it's definitely more expensive to get one for liquor/wine, too, and from what I understand, those are limited in number, plus there is some sort of regulation requiring a certain threshold capacity for people to be served, and some sort of archaic law regarding proximity to churches/schools. All that being said, I haven't visited a pub in many moons, so I guess I'm one of those armchair people, ;~). Seriously, though, if I had money to throw around, I'd like to have my own bar. I'd serve every variety of Guinness I could get my hands on. ;~) The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

We used to have a chain here in the 70's I think may be similar to what you're talking about, called, Steak & Ale. Victoria Station was another one. ~I used to like it as a kid because of the train theme. The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

Pluto IS A PLANET! It has more moons than Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars combined. Can't wait for the download from the spacecraft! Hang in there Grant, you're gonna see a lot more. "Sour Grapes make a bitter Whine." <(0)> |

G'morning everyone, from a very frosty start in the highlands down under. Canberra's Tidbinbilla radio telescopes are waiting for the signal from the New Horizons spacecraft (that should be tonight here). Other than that, I'm just getting prepared for the arrival of another polar vortex. Beer O'clock in 4hrs. Cheers. |

Is 1000 the new limit now? It always used to be 500 to cater for dial up users (all half dozen of them!). It was always 1000. 500 - 700 as a suggestion. When i look at the train thread its well over 1600 but no one seems to care. Me neither, just saying. With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

I strongly challenge the assertion that there are still dial up users anywhere. Speaking of connections, the phone company tried to get me to switch from copper to fiber yesterday. I told them I don't need anything faster than the 3 MB I get now, but the rep said they were offering discounts to switch. I take technology things in baby steps, so I'll ponder it. I would ponder it Gordon :-) You need to decide how much extra it would cost you, and what you might do with the extra speed. I can only give you an honest opinion that if you do switch, that in only a little while you will wonder why you put up with the previous slower speeds as long as you did! They actually claim it would be an overall reduction in $ for me. It probably is a bait, and I'm not sure I want to be on that hook, plus my alarm system requires the analogue signal inherent to copper. Ha ha, brave. ;~) Maybe.
