It would work, but would be pitiful in it's work output.

A GTX 750 would be a better choice.

G210 v GTX 750

CUDA cores 16 v 512
Memory bandwidth 8 GB/s v 80 GB/s

The only disadvantage of the GTX 750 is it is double width.

And over 3 times the price.

And probably more than 5 times the work done per hour.
Over the long term, buying something just because it's purchase price is low is rarely a good use of money. Better to figure out just how much it's going to do for you, and how much power it's going to need to do that. If you can't afford the more expensive initial purchase price, then it's usually better to not spend the money at all.
The GT210 is a good example.

Agreed. It will "work", but wont achieve a lot of work.

Even a GT730 would be a better option, and that site has them for ~40 pd. Not a high performance card compared to the top end ones, but a heck of lot more grunt than a 210. It also wont use a lot of power / generate a lot of heat.

BTW, under a standard config the GPU doesn't take any load off the CPU. It still does the usual tasks, and dedicates a % of it's time to feeding calcs to the GPU as well. A GT210 will only do about the work of one CPU core anyway.

The GT210 was introduced in 2009 and is now classed as a legacy card so to me £25 is £25 too much.

I'd prefer to at least obtain a Fermi based card (GT430/440), but I myself would go with the GTX 750 as well.

Cheers.

If you are looking for something relatively inexpensive with low power consumption, check out the GT 520 -- its 48 CUDA cores will give reasonable performance for SETI and it only consumes about 30W.

I didn't realise they were that bad.
A WU that takes my i7 2600k 3hr 45min to do, gets done by my GTX750Ti in around 28-30min. And it does 2 at the same time.
You'd probably want to get the GT210 for less than 8 quid for it to be comparable to the GTX 750 at the prices they are listed for.
