A red dwarf star, named Scholz's Star, was discovered about 1 year ago. After further analysis of its properties and modeling of its trajectory, a recently published paper concluded that Scholz's star had passed 0.8 ly from the sun 70,000 years ago. It passed through the outer Oort Cloud, but unlikely caused any events, such as turning an Oort object with a stable orbit into a comet. Scholz's star also has a brown dwarf companion, and is currently 20 ly away.

Can't edit now, but maybe it's not a binary star, since a brown dwarf isn't really a star.
