It appears to me that the far side of the moon is more heavily cratered than the side facing us. To me that means the moon has taken many blows that may have hit the earth were it not there or if it was much smaller in proportion to the earth. If my thinking is correct every crater on the near side was made by a comet or asteroid that passed pretty close to the earth before continuing on to hit the moon. Something else I just thought of, Our moon is the only one in the solar system that has no commonly used name other than the moon or luna (which is the latin word for moon). I wonder why. Bob DeWoody My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. This no longer applies in light of current events. |
