So when is your "next" self imposed vacation?

It just seems to me that there is so much unrest everywhere you look these days, and it is not confined to just one country either, the whole world seems uneasy. Almost as if we are all awaiting for armageddon. It would be nice if we had a charismatic world leader to pull us all together, but that is about as likely as the moon being made of green cheese.

Well, since you brought up Christian "End-Times" Prophecy, You seem to be wishing for the "Anti-Christ" here?

There's a dozen already...

Oddball would like to stop by and have a taste of your green cheese.
That is, if you don't mind the odd tank or two rattling about.

My thoughts exactly.

The world has always been an unstable, violent, ugly place. We just know more about it now and its actually gotten better.

The solution is more of the same. Shine a light on the people that do these things.

As History Shows: We are reverting to normal. The only difference from the past. Is that with World Wide Communications. We now know everything which is happening.

Hardly. Before the Bi-polar world order of the Cold War, the rule was every country for themselves. Alliances where short lived and temporary and only existed to maintain a balance of power. That is clearly not the case at this moment.

First of all, there are sort of semi permanent alliances at this moment. The world can be grouped together in a number of groups that have similar interests and are 'natural' allies.

Second of all, the role of the economy has changed drastically. Before the Cold War, the economy was an instrument to gain an advantage over the competition and it was based for a huge degree on protectionism. Right now, the economy has never been as open as before. This has also resulted in almost a reverse of relation between state and economy. Before the state was firmly in control over the economy, the economy served to further position and interests of the state. Now, its the other way around. The state exists to serve the interests of the economy and the state has no control over the economy anymore.

So the argument that history is repeating itself or that we are reverting to some kind of 'normal' (oh and btw, your 'normal' is extremely eurocentric) is just nonsense.

And look at the mess since that occurred!

I never said that was a good thing, I'm just saying that we are not returning to some 'normal' historical state of being.

I never stated you did, but as you've mentioned it, give me "normal" any day of the week compared to what we now have.

Well Chris when leaders tell lie's and promise stuff they don't mean then people turn on them and that's why leaders like TONY ABBOTT are having leadership challenges , not that anything will change they just don't get it ....

People are better educated now and the same old , same old will not do anymore .

I'm glad Tony Abbott is still the leader of the L.N.P wahooo the iddiot will lose the next election just like the state L.N.P's have in South Australia , Victoria , and now Queensland and my own state is having a election so watch the fun then when the state N.S.W Liberal Natianal Party lose here too

I said when he won his lie's got him in and his lie's will kick him out , one term Tony , now if only the rest of you took your voting more serious then things mite change , but then we have had compulsory voting here for decades maybe some of the other country's need to try it and then twit's like Bush won't be able to win with only 35% < of the vote as that is not a majority .
