Not enough Credit.

Believe it or not, there is more to life than "credits". :-)

I prefer AP jobs because I believe that project has more promise for achieving actual science.

I honestly don't care about credit. I don't even know how much I have or what my RAC is until I happen to see it next to one of my posts here on the forum. I don't keep track of it, I don't really care what it is or how much of it I have.

I'm in it for the science. Based on that alone, the same similar logic applies to the credit-hungry crunchers: more crunching = more credit and science. That being said, I'm doing the best I can with what I've got.

As to why I'm AP-only: I've been AP-only on my main cruncher since like.. 2008-9, somewhere in there. I did that for multiple reasons: a) fewer tasks in my task list; b) because of a), back then, the database was having I/O issues, and the 100mbit link was struggling, and every scheduler contact sends a list of all of your tasks that you have so that the scheduler can compare and see if you're missing anything and so forth. So because of I/O issues and saturated bandwidth, larger lists of what WUs you have were causing work requests to time-out and fail. I was doing my part to reduce the DB load by having less WUs in play at any given time, as well as increasing my chances of successful scheduler contact.

And finally, c) I find the promise of what AP searches for more interesting than MB. I look at it like this over-simplified comparison: AP is just listening out for any hint of voices being heard, whereas MB is trying to make out the syllables and the words. Both are completely legitimate approaches, but in my mind, it makes more sense to search broad and then "zoom in" for more details.

Not entirely true . . . This from the Astropulse FAQ page: (http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ap_faq.php)

In addition to ET, Astropulse might detect other sources, such as rapidly rotating pulsars, exploding primordial black holes, or as-yet unknown astrophysical phenomena.

That is what I am referring to when I say that AP has the possibility of "more science".
