Hi Folks,
Given the dearth of tasks due to the database problems, I'm looking for another project to run CPU tasks as a backup.

Trouble is none of the listed projects seem to give any indication of the 'type' of tasks available:-/

I'm looking for a project that [1] is Astronomy/Space related. [2] has CPU tasks selectable as exclusive

[ie ability to exclude GPU tasks from its project settings, no config file mods]

Regards,
Cliff,

Have you looked as Asteroids@Home?
I've just checked and you can exclude GPU getting GPU tasks.

Einstein@home is now crunching gamma-ray pulsar data from the Fermi satellite, only CPU, no GPU and a few Binary Radio Pulsar from Arecibo and Perseus Arm survey, these can run on GPU and give lots of credits.

Hi Tulio,
Thanks, am already doing GPU for E@H, all Aricibo stuff:-)

Last time I did Perseus stuff it caused a few problems with sorting out timings
I don't run 24/7.. Power bill gets too high:-/
[edit]
Now running FGRP4's on CPU, got a whole 3 tasks:-)

It's not crunching, but if you want to try something different, help CERN classify LHC data in the search for new particles.

@cov_route

Thanks, maybe some other time..

I've just added MW@H to my projects and am trying to assess the impact right now.

Cliff

Well I've tried MW@H, got a shedload of WU, BUT all completed are marked as inconclusive:-/

So MW@H is now suspended pending a reply from the help forum mod..

That's part of the problem these days, you cant post to forums until/unless you have credit.. So if you need some assistance from a project the only way seems to be to PM someone.. If your completed WU aren't credited..

Many thanks to the spam brigade NOT.

I'm currently running Einstein@home on my GPU's while offsetting its better credits there by running Rosetta@home on my CPU's.

Einstein grants better credits than here while Rosetta awards way less than here.

Cheers.

Hi Chris,
Not every projects forums are as comprehensive as S@H's unfortunately.

Anyway not having had a response to my PM and no way of posting I've removed MW@H from my projects list. I could see no point in processing WU that were inconclusive and poss invalid for some reason.

Fortunately A@H is back with tasks incl CPU ones so my crunching continues:-)

So now its just a case of wait until S@H is able to distribute WU again, hopefully in the near future.

I am running vLHC@home and ATLAS@home on one 64-bit Windows host, Einstein@home and vLHC@home on a 32-bit Linux host, vlHC@home and climateprediction.net on another 32-bit Linux host. On this I have installed a 64-bit SuSE Linux 13.2 Virtual Box guest just to test it and am running also vLHC@home on it. Of course it is slower, but using Virtual Machines gives you the ability to test other versions of the same OS (or other OS) without disturbing your host.

@Cliff, hey do have a Q&A board. IIRC there is no RAC required to post there.

Hi Gary,

No point now.. Disconnected from MW@H and since A@H is once again distributing WU I'm doing those.

No fuss, no bother, no need to tweak any settings just crunch away:-)

here's a idea for those whinging about no work help seti raise funds and join the fundraiser at Bitcoin Utopia we at 40% of the asking target .

And for those that think you need millions of hashes read this

Q: I read somewhere that the hash rate should be megahashes per second (Mhash/s), but I'm getting kilohashes per second (khash/s). What is wrong with my computer?

A: Those Mhash/s hash rates are most likely for SHA256 cryptocurrencies (e.g. bitcoins) and khash/s hash rates are most likely for Scrypt cryptocurrencies (e.g. litecoins). ~100 khash/s (or more) is quite good a hash rate for Scrypt based cryptocurrencies with a modern GPU. With CPUs, hash rates for Scrypt cryptocurrencies are usually between 1 khash/s and 10 khash/s.

In 2013, we were mining SHA256 cryptocurrencies (mostly bitcoins) in Bitcoin Utopia. Now, the difficulty of SHA256 cryptocurrency networks is so high (because of the hashing power from FPGA and ASIC machines) that it is not profitable anymore to use CPUs and/or GPUs for mining SHA256 cryptocurrencies.

so it is still ok to crunch
Scrypt based cryptocurrencies with a modern GPU. With CPUs, hash rates for Scrypt cryptocurrencies are usually between 1 khash/s and 10 khash/s.

Glen for those of us without green stars bit currency crunching for seti is better than nothing, but for me I shall continue to donate a modest amount of money and use what were my seti resources to add to my Einstein production until someting gets sorted out here.
