It's still running. Apparently it has slowed down over time. It's still got 16.5M rows to go. So it'll be another two days before I can tell you how many more days it will be.

Thanks, Eric for the info.

I'm presently motoring through 6 simultaneous SETI@hone v7 tasks.

I normally have a big storage locally so that the PC here never runs out of units to process.

With the faster computers these days, and multi-engine CPU's, processing is hundreds of times faster than 13+ years ago

It will be interesting to see if you can stay ahead of us all. :)

Cheers from New Zealand

(an old) Newbie here. (trans. have been away for a while...)

Any reason not to "Suspend" project until informed here that things are up and running again?

Thanks.

I'm still getting a few work units once in awhile. Maybe re-sends, or maybe they re-split a data tape occasionally. I'm leaving S@H on, and running some backup projects. That way I will get new WUs when they are available, with no further input from me.

Hello Eric,

It might be that the data processing side is being hindered by something in the infrastructure. It may also be something like sql statements. I don't know your strategy so I could only guess and make suggestions from my past experiences.

Good luck and keep us in the Loop.

Thank you.

Sincerely

Thank you for keeping us up to date and for working to get the project back online, especially during a holiday. Like my other S@H friends, I miss the crunching too. I've been volunteering my computer time to the project since 1999 and don't recall an outage lasting this long.

I'm not interested in participating in anything connected with BitCoin, but if we can make a PayPal donation, or hardware purchase which can be shipped to you, I would consider it.

For now, I am processing units for Einstein@Home. But, the moment I get the word that we're back online, I'm there.

Best regards.

I have a small cluster that runs work for a dozen different BOINC projects. After I saw the notice about the lack of SETI work units, marked SETI to not get new work and aborted all the SETI work units that were waiting to start. This let my system run other projects while we wait. I normally keep 5 days of work in my queues, to there were a fair number of SETI work units that should have been sent back out for others to work on if their systems didn't have a backup project configured.

but if we can make a PayPal donation,

Paypal donations can be made through an approved third-party. You can read more about it on the donations page.

or hardware purchase which can be shipped to you, I would consider it.

From what I can tell from the news updates, the problem isn't hardware related, but rather software related. SETI was given a full license to use IBM's Informix database, with full support, but it seems the people that approved this deal are no longer with the company. As far as I can ascertain, the project could either use a newer database program and/or full-featured support to help them when there's a problem. Such support costs are expensive and sometimes require an annual fee that the project just doesn't have the funds for.

OzzFan, thank you for the clatification.

If the project switches to Microsoft SQL Server, then I can help. I would gladly donate my time to provide remote support for Microsoft Windows Server, SQL Server, or Exchange.

In the meantime, I'll check into the Paypal donation link you suggested. I think IBM should be held accountable for unkept promises if there is an agreement in writing.

Better question: is there any reason to suspend it? If you have another project, Boinc will just go get work from it. When Seti has work again, Boinc will get it. I don't see any reason to mess with it.

Why? I don't get it. To me, this is like saying "my local grocery store is out of eggs, so I will throw out all the ones I already have at home."

Okay, better analogy, but the point remains the same.
