My avatar is of Klaus Hiesler from American Dad. To be more specific it's taken from the episode Surro-Gate in which two other characters throw him, in his bowl, down a water slide. He screams the entire way down and responds with this marvelous speech :)

My profile pic is just of boring old me... It was taken in 2004; and, I haven't changed, it still looks like me.

Mine is my cat Gandalf.

She was happier then. We got a kitten a couple of months ago and she still hasn't forgiven us. She went to let her out 5 minutes ago and she gave me a filthy look as she ran past.

She wants the kitten to just go away.

I decided to put up a pix of one of my old girl friends...

"Homo heidelbergensis"

I am attracted to the way the artist was able to capture the alert, knowing human look on the face of my avatar. It made me think that being human is more than just being a "modern man." That image represents to me an example of the light of humanity shinning through the eyes of that creature. I feel as if I could have been able to relate to his life, when he lived it.

(Yada yada yada.....)

Quick question: Does anyone know how to move the pic upwards? The bottom
15% got clipped.

Thanks.

ps, It's one of my viola da gamba, taken a few years, ago.

pps, Another pic may be in order. . .

I am stuck with using just Paint right now.

The IrfanView software lies on a partition that got a recent hiccup.

Please use a copy of the original for the following suggestions. Do not try it out on the original picture.

Just copying the picture into Paint, I get 614 * 480 pixels for the picture when looking at the properties of it.

614 is the vertical width of the picture using pixels. 480 is the horizontal width. Graphics resolution and/or monitor size does not matter here.

15 % of 480 rounds off to 72. (Dividing by 100 first gives 4,8).

Use Windows Calculator for this.

Again, using Paint, select or choose the "Alter size" button from the "Home" / "Show" menu (it is the leftmost one here), or alternatively use the graphics toolbox at the top.

This toolbox may possibly be hidden or not available but should be easy to get at by means of right-clicking on the "Home" / "Show" menu or just use this toolbox if it is visible.

Using this button, you may be able to either alter the size of the picture horizontally and vertically, or alternatively, shift or displace the picture instead. Also a sideways displacement either horizontally and vertically appears to be possible, although I have never tried out exactly this thing.

Most likely IrfanView is offering better options and possibilities here, but for now I am stuck here.

Also, you may have the option between percentage and pixels here. There is a tick box for the keeping of size proportions in the picture when using this option as well.

Having not tried this out yet, my guess is that the topmost part of the picture may become lost if you do so. The rest of the picture should be shifted towards the top in the same proportion as the rest of the displacement.

Hopefully these suggestions should at least be a starting point for solving this problem.

Thanks, musicplayer. I'll give it a try.

Paint has proved a tough nut to crack. Have yet to "cut" off the top of
the picture, so that the BOINC pgrm. might resize it, accordingly. I may
just retake the pic, with these problems in mind. Cheers, anyway.

No problem.

Being able to use just Paint for this sort of thing is really a pain.

I tried out a couple of things being mentioned here and it did not work at all.

IrfanView is the best I have when it comes to graphics software.

But it reminds me about a book about the subject being stored away.

I will go up looking for this book tomorrow. Any eventual upgrade of my graphics software would have to be done by means of a web-purchase and right now I am completely lost on the subject.

The only thing I know is that the Adobe Flash Player (formerly Macromedia) comes to you for free. Another package from Adobe or someone else may cost you perhaps US$ 2,000 or even more.

Most of it in a nutshell, I guess.

But nothing of this is helpful in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence that we are currently doing, however.

I use Paint Shop Pro v4.12, it works fine under Windows 7 Pro x64...

I'll never be able to get rid of the shareware notice popup when PSP starts, but that's life.

Mine was free, version 7 I think cost some money, at the time I didn't have any income, so I made do.

If you just want to cut off the top of the picture just open it in paint. Click select. Use the box one. Put a box around what you want to keep. Then click crop. It is next to the select at the top of the screen. Then save the picture.
