As long as I used Boinc version 7.4.22 all computers worked well. Installing version 7.4.26 I'm having a problem on my laptop. The message is: NO GPU FOUND. On my other computers version 7.4.26 works well. Maybe it is because the laptop is an older model with a Geforce 105M GPU. Has anybody discovered the same problem? |

Did you accidentally install BOINC as a service? |

Yes, this is new change in BOINC to disallow usage of old GPUs (Compute Capability <2.0) with driver 340.52++ This combination leads to compute errors (wrong computing) http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=5168264 "NVIDIA GeForce G 105M (512MB) driver: 340.52" Your GPU have Compute Capability 1.1 https://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-gpus Read "@Pre-FERMI nVidia GPU users: Important warning": http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=75633 And this post about the BOINC change: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=75633&postid=1593831#1593831 Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |

Oh, I see. Thank you. So I must keep version 7.4.22, because otherwise I cannot use my GPU any longer. That's bad... |

So I must keep version 7.4.22, because otherwise I cannot use my GPU any longer. No, you should downgrade in videocard driver and not upgrade to CUDA 6.5 or later drivers as those are the ones that cause the problems. Running work with those drivers will silently fail all work you're returning, which doesn't do you any good anyway. You can easily use BOINC 7.4.26 and later as long as you do not upgrade to a 340.xx range of drivers or beyond. BOINC stops supporting your videocard when it finds you have CUDA 6.5 drivers or higher installed. Remember that it is Nvidia's decision not to support the older videocards anymore. Don't blame it completely on BOINC. BOINC is doing it for this reason: Charlie Fenton, BOINC developer for Macintosh wrote: While one can debate the issue for Windows where the "only" issue is silently returning incorrect results, we have demonstrated that running OpenCL apps on Macs with older NVIDIA GPUs and CUDA 6.5 installed causes _frequent_ kernel panics, which are the Mac equivalent of Windows blue screens of death. Further explanations in this thread at the BOINC forums. |

Now I understand. Okay, I've done what you told me. Downgraded the GraphicDriver to version 337,88. Upgraded Boinc to version 7.4.26. Now it works without problems. If this is the better way, I will do so. Thank you very much! PS.: thanks for being a fan of the Firefly-series |

The developers have built a new version for Windows (7.4.27) which does not break support for the older GPUs with the newer CUDA 6.5 drivers, letting the validators on the project handle the ugly end of tasks seemingly finishing correctly but being bad anyway. So you can now upgrade BOINC and maybe in the future to a new CUDA 6.5 driver, but always check what the tasks are doing -- are they validating or not? For if not, the solution is still the older driver. Just so you know when you see the newer BOINC. :-) |

Oh! It seems, that I was not the one anly with an older GPU model. This is the best solution, of course. Now I have the newest Graphic drivers AND the newest version of BOINC 7.4.27 ! And it all works correctly. Thanks for helping! |

And why exactly do you need/want "newest Graphic drivers" on old GPUs? NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT (512MB) driver: 340.52 http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=6819491 NVIDIA GeForce G 105M (512MB) driver: 340.52 http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=5168264 For old GPUs the best driver is 266.58 Â - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :) Â |

As you say, I don't "need" the newest drivers, but I "want" them. But if you tell me, that some older drivers are "better" than the newer ones, I will listen. I'm sure, you know more than me. I had no necessity to do so. Please tell me, why older drivers are better then newer ones. And think of it, that English is NOT my mother tongue. By the way, forget the 9500 GT. Beside the computer lies a new GTX650. I only had no time to install it. Thanks for helping |

When yo do install the GTX650 don't forget to use the Nvidia/Geforce drivers and not those that MS Windows will attempt to install... Bob Smith Member of Seti PIPPS (Pluto is a Planet Protest Society) Somewhere in the (un)known Universe? |

Thank you, Bob. Of course I will use the GeForce drivers. I never use Microsoft drivers. Nice to remember me... |
