seti@home occasionally (but regularly) crashes my entire desktop, that is all running apps but not the O/S. It's as though every application is immediately killed. This happens on both a Win7 64-bit laptop and Windows 8.1 64-bit on a tower box with the latest BOINC x64. The environments are entirely different but both show this all-kill bug. It happens after seti@home has been running and the mouse is moved or keyboard touched. The screensaver is not used, only computing in the background during inactivity. This is a serious problem because it crashes everything, even running VMware VMs. Obviously it is completely unacceptable as I have repeatedly lost work and time. After 15 years of computer for SETI and being in the top 1% daily I'm find myself seriously considering removing it entirely. |

What about other heavy loads: LinX (Linpack) for CPU http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?201670-LinX-A-simple-Linpack-interface FurMark / GPU Caps Viewer 'Demos' for GPU http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/ http://www.ozone3d.net/gpu_caps_viewer/ Do they also "kill everything"? Hi Tod, Had a few strange glitches, GPU driver seems to 'blink' or something followed by a non transparent task bar, then a few minutes later the taskbar goes transparent again. This is sometimes followed by a system freeze:-/ Requires a hard reset to get anything going again. Been tearing my hair out checking Mobo temps, GPU loading etc. Finally decided to have a look at my mobo bios settings, reset them to manufactures optimum/default and all of a sudden my CPU temps are down even under full load as are GPU temps. Still don't know exactly what bios setting was out of whack but it seems cured now [ touch wood] Just got to wait and see if any more lockups occur, but they have been several hours apart, and until the last one, a couple of days, so I may have a long wait to see if I have managed to cure the problem with that bios reset. Maybe a look at your bios setting may be of use? Paticularly if win8.x has altered the UEFI setup as it tends to on install. Regards, Cliff, Been there, Done that, Still no damm T shirt! |
