I am not sure what you are trying to achieve with this thread but the Cafe is not the place for politics.

Perhaps you could enlighten us as to exactly what want.

I don't know for sure, I think there is potential
in this as long as remains funny and does not
slip over to another thread. A problem I have is
crafting a funny thread and getting others to be
interested enough to go along. Not easy when tried.
It has worked just enough to keep me trying it.
Just my thoughts.......

Common sense is one of those terms that everyone thinks applies to their own way of thinking.
Political correctness is a term that applies to the act of not being a jerk to others.
I do not fight fascists because I think I can win.
I fight them because they are fascists.

You see, now I can't respond because I don't see it as funny. I mean it could be kept funny. I see your point now. Quite a balancing act. Would be terrific writing if you could pull it off though. I'm not that guy. Not that smart.

To really be politically correct I probably should not have responded ;)

Anybody ever thought of the reverse of that?

TBH, I've never come across a correct politician yet.

We have many examples of corrupt ones though. Amazing what changeing two letters can do.

Political correctness is the attitude or policy of being careful not to offend or upset any group of people in society who are believed to have a disadvantage. Mainstream usages of the term politically correct began in the 1990s by right-wing politicians.

I would suggest it is also quite close to what is also called Bleeding Heart Liberalism. I any case I agree with Bernie that I don't see the point of this thread, and if there is one it should be in Politics not the Cafe. Methinks someone is just bored.

Considering that it was moved to politics hours before your post, methinks someone else is bored.

Political correctness is simply a sap to the scaredy cat liberal classes who do not the truth being told because it means they have to accept that the world is not as they like to think about it.

Cultural respect and having personal dignity is one thing, this should mean you treat all other people you meet with a common amount of basic respect and decency, you don't judge them on disabilities, skin colour, sex or any of the other nonsense people like to use to pigeon hole people different from themselves.

However, there are certain statements that these days are considered "unacceptable" due to political correctness and people are afraid to speak the truth for fear of persecution..one such taboo for the most part is immigration and what to do with illegal immigrants...

However I will not mention this any more as PC has already struck on this forum by the removal of one of my posts when I happened to mention the work P***s is relation to people moaning about the scoring for for work units..(It was in context but mentioning a functioning part of the male human body is clearly banned!..I wonder how I am to explain to my son what dangles from his front and makes him different from his sister if he asks..????)

Political correctness really works! Sorry, conservatives, but science just said so

Utter nonsense.
Political correctness is a term, PC, and used to oppress other peoples.

Hmmmm... Interesting :) I've never felt oppressed by modern political correctness. But maybe that's because of where I spent most of my formative years (where being "politically correct" then and there went against every moral fibre of my being).

The fact is no one HAS to be politically correct - you just have to accept that if and when you aren't, there may be consequences :) So for me... after moving to apartheid South Africa... my lack of "political correctness" left me at very real risk of disappearing into a prison and possibly not coming out perpendicularly. I would suffer the same risk if I lived in Israel, India, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Pakistan... well actually... it's a very long list so I'll stop now and just say I'm fortunate I don't :)

I see modern political correctness more as the training wheels some groups or people need to help them make the transition from what was once seen as acceptable to what is now considered acceptable within the social context in which they live. If it teaches us better ways to express ourselves without causing undue offence - then we're more likely to make progress at resolving differences I would have thought. But that's just my opinion :)

If anyone feels oppressed by political correctness - speak out I say :) erm... Cordially helps :)

edit: including to this :) I can take it :)

Blacks are...

Women are...

Gay's are...

Is the Acceptable Bigotry of The Right.

Whites are...

Men are...

Non-Gay's are...

Is the Acceptable Bigotry of The Left.

BOTH Bigotry's are Vile and Disgusting. Except to those who hold them.

And then there's sweeping generalisations which offend everyone as Clyde has kindly pointed out from his stance - bang in the middle of centre (Hi Clyde! How are you? :))

Sweeping generalisations is what PC is all about.
