Message 1583258 - Posted: 8 Oct 2014, 1:40:37 UTC

08/10/2014 02:20:45 | SETI@home | Task 16fe09aa.11640.212893.438086664200.12.157_1 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file
Log file warns that repeated cases may require reset of project.
I've looked on tasks at 2 of these of the 4/5 that have occurred over the last 2 days.
Both the tasks I looked at showed them to be still 'in progress' on my rig.
I believe any wingman will be left high and dry until the task times out so I need some advice on resetting the project.
I still have some s@h tasks [non gpu] on the go, do I stop all the s@h GPU tasks and let the CPU ones complete over the next couple of hours, or just
hit the reset switch and let them go?

Log file warns that repeated cases may require reset of project.

Ignore this message and do not reset

This is only intended for stock users (and you are not: 'Anonymous platform', app_info.xml used)
- in case some .exe .dll is broken/corrupted - the reset will Download again new .exe .dll files for stock users

Ahh, drat I had 5 such warnings so reset, Before I saw your post:-(

And my log file has another warning but I checked up on the WU and it showed OK, waiting wingman.

Anyway thanks for the info, wont reset again, pity BAM doesn't take account of anon users and not include warning for them..

Message 1583820 - Posted: 9 Oct 2014, 6:16:38 UTC

Well had another log report saying exit with no finished file, now I KNOW it was processed and uploaded to S@H. I tracked it on the following link:-
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=3771559442

But it shows it as still in progress on my rig, which leaves the wingman hanging until the job times out and is re-issued to someone else:-(
I saw the 'report' file in the tasks window and it was uploaded after the WU on a forced update..
So what format is the exit file and does it have any connection with the 'report' generated by BAM when a WU is completed and uploaded?

Hi BilBG,
There is however a problem still! I got another log file reset warning and chased the WU down and its shown as still in progress on my rig! But I saw the damm thing get uploaded and after a manual update reported to the server.
Trouble is that the poor blighter that's also doing the WU is going to get left dangling until S@H times the WU out and re-issues it:-(

Anyway I now know that a reset doesn't work, but there IS still a problem.

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Cliff,

I don't fully understand your post.
Explain what you mean by:
"'report' file"
"the tasks window"
"was uploaded after the WU"
"forced update"

Do you still have (in the computer) task/file with Name:
24au09aa.26956.96277.438086664199.12.31

Check in BOINC Manager (BAM) and as file in SETI@home directory (<BOINC_Data>\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu\)

The result file will have name:
24au09aa.26956.96277.438086664199.12.31_0_0

'uploaded' task (result file) will still be shown on web as 'In progress'
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=3771559442

If task on your computer is really finished and result file uploaded
it need to be also 'reported' before be shown on web as 'Completed'

had another log report saying exit with no finished file

'finished' file is NOT result file.
It is just a file with zero length (0 bytes) and name:
boinc_finish_called

It is created by apps when they finish all Computing, before they call BOINC API to tell BOINC "I will now exit because I finished all Computing OK"

App may exit (on its own) before it finish all Computing (e.g. because app can't communicate with boinc.exe)
In this case BOINC see app "exited with zero status but no 'finished' file"
meaning: app did not crash, app did not report error ('zero status'),
but app also did not create boinc_finish_called to tell "All the Computing is Done"

In this case BOINC restarts the task/app and it continues from last checkpoint.

Why don't you just Copy/Paste the real Messages

I have logs even back to 2009, so this is my first occurrence:

I never did reset any project (this is useless)

The "exited with zero status but no 'finished' file" happens usually when:
- some heavy process runs in the background
- BOINC have (temporarily) network problems
- (maybe) when computer clock changes backwards for more than 30 seconds (e.g. 11:22:33 -> 11:20:00)
