A quick question.

In one of my Z400s (id 7350913 , called Robert2), the GTX 750 IT has stopped being detected by boinc in the last few days. I can see the 750 with GPU-Z & Precision X. I can even adjust it with two programs. I did not change diver version, still 335.23. I have not changed anything in windows and I have done a soft/hard restart & an unplug restart.

Anyone have any ideas?

By way of information, I have an almost identical 2nd z400 here in my home office and it is fine. The difference is the 750 driver version, 337.88, they were both fine for a long time.

edit - spelling & info
The 750s were overclocked the same & I did roll back the overclock on the problem card.

Robert,

Could you post the first 30 lines of the event log so we can see what it says.

Did you restart the computer?

The first remedy I would try is, in Boinc Manager, go to File > Exit Boinc. Wait 30 seconds and start it again. (I gave it a desktop icon so I don't have to go fishing for it in the Start menu.)

I can see the 750 with GPU-Z

But does it show CUDA ? (GPU-Z will 'show' any GPU that have video driver, even very old like GeForce 256)
('No usable GPUs found' shown by BOINC means 'No Computing-enabled GPUs found')

Most probably you allowed Windows to update the NVIDIA driver
The so called 'NVIDIA driver' from Microsoft do not have CUDA

Get the driver from NVIDIA

There is also program CUDA-Z - try it:
http://cuda-z.sourceforge.net/

Hi Glenn, I was trying to avoid any changes in the system but I may have to try the driver reload soon.

You should be ok if you shut down Bionic . Then reinstall it you should not have to change anything . What ever happened to the cuda driver should be fixed after that . Nvidia can be a little naughty some times i would do the install as a clean install and see what happens

Exit Boinc, wait 30 seconds, and start it again.

OS Version: Windows AMD64 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1

This line don't show any Hardware info
AMD64 here means just 'Windows 64 bit'
'AMD64' is the original name of 64 bit instructions AMD invented and Intel later adopted:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X86-64

Runtime Dll Version: 5.50

It seems CUDA 5.5 Dll is found

I wonder if the info under 'Performance Information' was really measured?
(I don't have where to test CUDA-Z)

Do you look at this computer locally and monitor is connected to GTX 750 Ti ?

Far_raf,

Trying shutting down and remove the GPU and then reseating it. ( Might not hurt to use some compressed air and clear out any dustbunnies in the GPU and in the case) After that restart and see if Boinc see it now. If not, then I would download the same Nvidia driver and do a clean reinstall and see if that corrects the problem.

Guys he hasn't come back to the thread and i just looked at both his machines with the 750 cards and he seems to have validations pending on both machines from yesterday so i'm thinking he has fixed it .

prob just reinstal'd the driver with a clean install and that fixed it .. so well just have to see if he comes back and says what has happend

Ops i didn't look hard enough there all cpu and only 1 gpu but it has CUDA 23 units .

He should have CUDA 50 for that card i'm thinking he is running stock .

download Lunatics and install it and choose CUDA 50 for your cards

I did not allow windows to update driver:

Are you sure? Ask because if you enable the automatic windows updates and you enable to install the recomended updates then the windows installs the video drives automaticaly too.

You have 2 exactly identical GPU´s on the hosts? If for any reason one GPu is sligtly diferent from the other Boinc will use only the faster of them unless you add the <use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus> to your config file.

If that not works, on the other hand who detects the GPU is the OS/driver, so if your OS does not detect the 2 GPU the boinc could not use it. To be sure the driver it´s working, DL a compleate new driver form the Nvidia site and do the clean instalation and befor try to use them in Boinc check if the OS detects both cards (my computer/installed devices).

The lines you posts to answer Zalters question shows the Boinc only see one GPU not two.

Hope one of this help.

Sorry for the delay in response folks, I did what Glenn suggested and reloaded the nvidia drivers with a clean install. I went to bed right after I fixed the problem.

Thanks Guys

Hi Juan, good to hear from you again. I took the 2nd 750 out of the 1st Z400 & installed it in a 2nd Z400 I just installed here in the home office. So I am running 2 identical Z400s now.

If you recall it took me a bit to get all the parts to repair the 1st one but it is up and running again.
