The SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE IS A FREAKING GREAT WHITE ELEPHANT THAT COST THE n.s.w TAX PAYERS 400 MILL PER YEAR .

And as Chris said it only a building . It's only the tourista that think it's art

And the only saving grace is that it brings ppl to Sydney to see it .

Are we proud of it mmmmmmmm it's a bloody white elephant costing heaps of cash for nothing so yes we have to be proud otherwise we have to relise we got ripped off , it cost to much to build , still costs to much to run and is sinking into the harbour a few mm each year.

But hey i'm a bogan so stuff art costs to much money can be spent on other more important things .

Oh if Rembrandt painted a turd which i don't think he did which say's a lot . Then it would still be a turd only he painted it .Not art

I have seen the Mona Lisa painting in person. I was not impressed. Nor did I like the paintings from the rennasciance peroid. The depiction of religious torture was repulsive to me.
I did enjoy the Impessionist paintings alot. Monet, Manet, and Cezane and the others who did such, Were much reviled and hated works at the time, I love that kind of art.

I aslo think Jackson Pollack did some awesome abstract work.

Any artist wants their work to be admired. It might be for the quality of the brushstrokes on a painting, or the aesthetic beauty of a sculpture. Or they want people to find it thought provoking with a hidden message. I don't find Picassos work interesting at all although most do. And as for that twerp that throws tins of paint on the floor and rides a bike through it, the less said the better. But every art form has its fringe elements, even Edinburgh has a special comedy festival.

But I do find some difficulty in seeing buildings and structures as art forms. I think the Taj Mahal is a pretty building, but knock it down and all you have is a pile of bricks. I think the Forth Rail Bridge is a marvel of engineering, but its only a pile of steel, its the way its put together that makes it what it is. The Sydney Opera House with its unusual roof design was way ahead of its time when it was built, and took construction skills to their limits. Dont know what the acoustics are like though.

If you look at the Mona Lisa for long enough it does look almost like she is hinting "I know something you don't!" which is called the enigmatic smile. That has led to suspicions she was having an affair with the painter, although there is no evidence for it. Most people are disappointed when they see it, but it's hardly any wonder, as the most famous painting in the world, it has been hyped up by so much for so long, it could never hope to live up to its reputation.

The rock we are talking about here is really more of a conversation piece than an artform where most people would have an opinion about it. Whether positive or negative is up to the individual, but placing it there has fulfilled its purpose. It got us talking!

Salvador Dali as Mona Lisa:)

Sorry janneseti i can't see the picture for some reason

I do understand what art is as you seem to be a little anoyed with me .

I think it was Vincent Van GO that painted his pictures with the wrong colours and i always thought they where a bit childish but then i learnt that he had a health problem and he actually saw things differntly because of this condition and then i saw his work in a different light so to speak .Im not talking about his madness that ended up taking his life .

So i can understand art i just don't think a freaking big rock is art mate

Chris it mite have changed in the last few years but it has cost a lot more that what you have posted . There was a bit of a uprore about the cost a few years ago so i think there was a shift to get it to start making money and why in the last 5 -10 yrs there has been so many concerts on the steps . And special things like Oprah show and sell tickets now to the new years eve fireworks .

It's not i don't like it hell i even sleep'd there a few times when i was on the streets i just think it was a waste of money . $ 1 billion bucks to build it man how many Hospitals or housing for homeless can you build with that much cash and i don't like the fact the N.S.W gov has to keep paying for the thing. 98 mil is still a lot of cash mate for 1 freaking year even if they are paying there way more now than in the past .

If the arty types wish for a new oprah house then let them richy rich snobs pay for it to be built and the running costs not the dam state gov .

To often gov money is used in this way . I say F)(* them rich snods pay for your art yourself and stop asking for hand outs from the gov . It has better things to do with there money .

I've always thought she looked more constipated than enigmatic... the Mona Lisa I mean, but I'm not an expert :)

Edit: I can see the building - it looks a little bleak.

I think it's a ordinary . Even if it made him famous i think his work on the human body is Lenardo's best work and his best art and to think he didn't even wish to be famous for his art but for putting thoughts into others mind is what he wanted to be famous for , Ideas !

That building looks like it would suit as an outlaw motorcycle gang's clubhouse from the front.

Cheers.

My first reaction was. How small it is.
Målningen målades mellan 1502 och 1507. Five years!

The remarkable Modern House : Bunker and House Plans

Bunker is the right word, from that perspective it looks like WWII one. It all depends whether you are building houses as cheap as possible to house people that don't have a house and would be grateful for any roof over their head. Or you are building a house that people would actually WANT to live in, and is aesthetically pleasing.

Minimalist living is the current in-thing and many architects are jumping on the band wagon to earn a few bob from it. Your money, your choice what to buy. I want to live in a house that feels like a HOME, not looks like a cold modernistic monstrosity.

Other views of it are a bit better.

A Little bit better.
