Trust the Swedes and the Aussies to lower the tone of the proceedings .... :-)) At least they're funny about it, unlike Brits when they're having too much fun... ...as Magaluf shows the world. |

The Sydney Opera house it not art it is a building. The design may be thought by some to be artistic, but that is a another matter. For heavens sake Chris. The Sydney Opera house is an Icon of Australia. Admired by ALL arkitekts in the World! True art Chris. Aussies are proud of it. |

Art is in the eye of the beholder So the Dome or the Dean's staircase in St Paul's is not art, just something an old relic put together, or... ...the Golden Gate bridge is just a pile of metal... |

It is not a work of art or an artform as such, it is a building that has attained iconic status. To repeat your own words... Art is in the eye of the beholder "One man's meat is another man's poison" An architect designs buildings, so who is to say that the design is not a piece of art? Read what you post & do not deign to rubbish what others see when it does not meet your "particular thought patterns". |

I like rocks :) They're so old... and you find fascinating creatures under them too... or sunbathing on top of them of course... which can even make you leap about and head for the nearest horizon :) Here... I'm not sure whether it's the rock that's defining the art... or whether it's the moving and placing of it that does... But of course it goes much further than that when we weigh the juxtaposition of its setting (static, urban concrete and glass) with the raw unsophistication of nature's own concrete - rock - being made fluid by human and mechanical effort... in the same way that a glacier does in one of nature's many one-way streets - which suggests it can't be ignored... SNORT! Sorry! :) Heh heh heh I have an artist in the family - he doesn't speak like that - but I've had to learn artspeak :/ in order to explain artspeak to him) :))))))))))))) I have a friend (6 foot 8 inches tall) who obtained his masters in conceptual art by carrying a square, empty canvas (that entirely obscured him from view... and the view from him :)) around London's west end for the eight busiest hours on a Saturday. Was that art? I don't know... he teaches English now. |

Art is what makes something more interesting than it's default state. My house could be gray block walls with a flat roof but instead it is painted, has trim and a slopped tile roof. You have the option of a white canvas or you can add properly placed paint to make it more interesting. The different between weeds and flowers is the art we see in flowers. What makes it art is the difference between functional and pleasing to the eye. If you can't see the difference between the item and the enhancements, then it's not art. |

Well Gary, LA has always been LA :-))) You are totally wrong. There is no definition of art. Like there is no definition of Beautiful and Ugly. Like Troll mother and her Troll Childrens. |

Like there is no definition of Beautiful and Ugly. I see. The popular public opinion rules the way how people should Think about art. Nice. And the trolls in pic before. Are they ugly or beautiful. What do you Think Troll mother Thinks of her Children? Its from a lullaby for instance that every Swedish Child knows. I am Tolerant of Everything, EXECPT Intolerance |

Like there is no definition of Beautiful and Ugly. Art itself can be very political, which is why this thread... Art or Eyesore? ...was placed there for the simple reason is that art like beauty is in the eye of the beholder, & that beholder has opinions which often lead to topical & sometimes heated debate. |

Like there is no definition of Beautiful and Ugly. Looks like a roller coaster to me. Who paid £22.7 million which is a LOT? Silly question of me. Taxpayers of course Christos art is MUCH cheaper. |
