Is it used to thump the inside of the bore, so seismometers can read the rock structures? That is an excellent guess, but wrong. I will repeat the last hint. Seti uses the largest one in the world. But theirs receives signals from space. If I say any more it will give it totally away. |

I think the proper name is a security spline screw drive socket. Hard to tell scale but it looks like a 1/4 inch drive |

Count the splines on a torx and then count the splines on the tool. OK it's a torx like tool, it's proper name I don't know and I agree about the hole in the middle being a security feature. |

Count the splines on a torx and then count the splines on the tool. In this case, not against malice though. BOINC WIKI |

http://www.handsontools.com/Gedore-Model-885-X-12-Screwdriver-Bit-516-XZN-M12_p_96471.html Close, but not quite. The one pictured appears to have a solid middle (not completely certain as the description does not cover that detail). BOINC WIKI |

oil drain plug tool Close enough. It is for transmission oil plugs on some cars. The engine oil drain has a much more ordinary hex head. BOINC WIKI |
