Does seti or boinc have a twelve step program? If you don't know what I mean, it's better that way.:-) |

I am running 6 BOINC projects on 3 PCs with both Linux and Windows, so I have some BOINC experience. Most BOINC message boards are rather dull, with people only speaking in technical terms and problems. The SETI message boards are the most lively, with some posts belonging more to psychology than computer science. This is why I still run SETI@home, although the hope of getting a message is rather dim. But people cling to it despite the odds. Why? Tullio |

Because some of us believe in the probability more than you can imagine, Tulio. Not the odds of successfully proving so. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

12 steps Think we all need to get a copy of that book... "Setiholics Anonymous: The Story of how 100,000 crunchers recovered from Seti-ism" |

Maybe people are waiting for a message. Once messages were announced by prophets, now we are expecting them from radiotelescopes. Read "The black cloud" by Fred Hoyle, really a prophetic book. Tullio |

I'd fail at the first step of admitting I have a problem :) Member of the People Encouraging Niceness In Society club. |

Just read the excerpt from Wikipedia, sounds very interesting, I'll have to get it. Maybe people are waiting for a message. Once messages were announced by prophets, now we are expecting them from radiotelescopes. Read "The black cloud" by Fred Hoyle, really a prophetic book. |

Donald, Good point, these forums add to it. It's like the next stage. You know - a shot and a beer. Retired Army 4 years. Spending time in these Forums is certainly habit-forming...... |

I'd fail at the first step of admitting I have a problem :) Notice what happening? Everything seems normal to me :) Member of the People Encouraging Niceness In Society club. |

If Seti is an habit-forming drudge, does this mean it is no longer fun? |
