I'm not trying to be mean, so please don't take offense. I'm just going to throw this out here: what if there IS no extra-terrestrial life out there?

I'm a Christian, and the Bible has no record of extra-terrestrial. That said, what if there really isn't? Is there something else the project's data could be used for?

Now I'm going to ask the other question: what if we DO find something? Then what?

I'm not trying to be mean or anything, I'm just asking.

We'll never know the answer to the haunting question that always plagues mankind, "what if", if we don't look for an answer. If we stop looking, we may miss or never find the answer.

We already know the obvious answers: if there is ETI, we know we're not alone and our existence of pure chance has a greater than a probability of one. If there isn't, then all of the life we know it on our planet is all that much more precious, and petty bickering over land on this tiny little rock seems all that much more pointless.

That being said, the Bible also doesn't have a record on dinosaurs either, but we have evidence of their existence all over the fossil record. I would surely hope you don't believe that the Bible is the source of truth for all knowledge in the Universe, and if isn't mentioned in that book it musn't be a matter of fact.

My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. This no longer applies in light of current events.
