I don't think so. Running alternative operating systems was cut from the 'slim' revisions of the PS3. And even for those older models that still have the 'OtherOS' capability, you would need projects to support the Cell architecture of the CPU. I think the OtherOS hypervisor prevented use of the GPU capabilities on the PS3. There may be BOINC projects that support PS3, but aside from an unofficial 'beta' application from Einstein@Home, I don't know of any. At any rate, the PS3 hardware isn't that powerful these days. At least, that's what I believe was one of the reasons Sony dropped support for Folding@home on the PS3. Soli Deo Gloria |

Is there still a way to run some boinc apps on the ps3? or is that option gone with the option to install linux? If you have the newer firmware with the option removed then there is not. If you have an older unit with the older FW still on it. Then you can find a version of BOINC to run on it on Dotsch's site. It looks like the apps are still up there, but they are very old. From the MB v5.x & AP v5.x days. So I'm not sure they are viable anymore. As far as BOINC in the PlayStation store to run on the system I am not sure that will ever happen. Unless Sony wants to fund it like HTC is/was doing for the android app. Also if they do it would probably only support the current PS4 hardware. Which is really just a PC with a custom OS on it. For for some kind of benchmarking/system testing they could still have a use.
