Message 1557933 - Posted: 16 Aug 2014, 19:47:22 UTC

On the left side of the SIV64 display it shows 4 temps for my 4 cpu cores. The temperature here shows on average in the sixties. Over on the right is another temperature, it is on the line with the L1 Data Cache. On my computers I have one that shows in the 50's but another that shows in the 90's. WHAT does this temp on the right side mean?

Thanks, Danke, Etc.

On the left side of the SIV64 display it shows 4 temps for my 4 cpu cores.

= read from Internal CPU sensors (in the silicon of the chip, in the cores)
(this is the only temperature read by programs like CoreTemp, RealTemp, TThrottle)

Over on the right is another temperature, it is on the line with the L1 Data Cache.

= read from External sensor mounted under the CPU package on the Motherboard
(less number of programs can read (also) this type of sensors (need knowledge of many sensor chips) - SIV, Everest/AIDA64, HWiNFO32, HWMonitor, SpeedFan, Open Hardware Monitor)

Sometimes programs wrongly identify External sensors and/or read (calculate) wrong values
This is mostly due to non-standard usage of sensor chips by Motherboard manufacturers

If you have monitoring program made by your Motherboard manufacturer - use it to check is it also show 90°C

Thanks BilBg, again.
Much relieved to hear this info!
I may have to dig around for the ASRock solution.

BilBg;
What is your personal opinion on this question?

I am interested only in ETI work here at S@H. Should I even be bothered running Astropulse since it appears no one is examining the results for ETI, or apparently so. Points are only a secondary consideration for me.

You might want to download http://www.naic.edu/vscience/schedule/tpfiles/KorpelatagP2589tp.pdf and http://www.naic.edu/vscience/schedule/tpfiles/KorpelatagP2677tp.pdf. Those are the brief descriptions of the proposals to reobserve some possibly interesting Astropulse results. I don't know if those last 32 reobservations in P2677 have been completed.

As I said in the other thread "nitpckr" is for checking ALL work done, starting with the standard wu's.

As far as I am aware no one is examining anything astropluse or non-astropulse.

What! Are you saying no one is checking anything of our results including MB?
This whole thing is just a sham?

No it's not a sham, the results are being stored, however as far as I am aware there is not enough money to advance to the next stage.

More work on nitpicker needs to be done.
It is in the plans.
If I thought that my endeavors on this project were in vain, do you have the slightest notion that I would be putting into it what I do????

Oh no I didn't mean to imply that to you. I simply didn't understand.
But still, I have to question; when will the analysis begin? Do we have to take it on faith that someday it will begin. This confuses me. Help!

OK, your boinc stats convince me that I can rely on your perception of what is going on. Please don't take offense at my attempt to understand what is going on with this project.

With your stats you should have some clout with the management. Get them to hire ASAP a professional fund raiser who gets a piece of the action for him/herself.:-)

No worries, no offense taken at all. As they say, the only truly bad question is sometimes the one not asked.

I think it was mentioned in Jan or Feb they had plans to get some of that stuff on track for this year, but the funds/resources never materialized.
I am guessing that it was specific grants or other funding that didn't come through.

You talk about ToolTip (if mouse is over 'temp on the right side')
The ToolTip columns are clear what they mean

The question was not about the info on that ToolTip
The (already answered) question was "WHAT does this temp on the right side mean" = where this temp is read from

In the siv graph it show the various cpu's running with mostly a green band for each thread. Most of the time the color is green but sometimes there is red in the bottom half. Does that mean some kind of overheating even if the number shown is only 65 to 68C. for that thread?
