I tinkered here with boinc's general options, more specifically I set on the option to leave a project's work engine paused in memory while another one is running, and now I noticed something strange... This doesn't happen always, because I remember checking it in other times, but I also don't know if this was happening already before the pirates scroll workunits came up or not, but I noticed it now.
My boinc is running all my projects at once. Pirates, Seti and Climate are all runing, and I can click to see their graphics and watch it working simoultaneously.
I got pirate's scroll workunits "processing" now but I can see Seti and climate prediction working very very slowly too if I open their graphics windows. I even opened all three graph windows at the same time and they're working right now.
Has anyone else happened this too?

p.s. - I don't have a dual cpu computer or anything... it's just one AMD Athlon XP 2000+ w/ 512 Mb RAM

This is a known bug with the Leave apps in memory preference. But it is usually only noticeable in the Windows 98/98SE/ME versions of the operating system. The paused apps aren't really performing any real work while they are paused, but when the bug in Boinc/Windows fails to fully pause them the CPU time will increase. This just results in the unit reporting a larger of amount of CPU time and thus a larger credit request. You will almost always see that the unit will be granted a lower amount. I watched it happen on my Windows 98 machine, usually occurs after the system hasn't been restarted for awhile and I have been using it alot. That is why I leave that preference set to no, so that I can see how much time it actually takes to crunch a unit.

Yes. Agreed. But this is first report i've seen of

I can't reproduce this problem here. CPU time counted during pause, but paused apps are not running. Only one graphic at a time!
NeoGen problem is interesting.

Taking a closer look at the graphs I think the only one working is really the one that should. Altough I can see all three graphs animating.
I watched seti graph window for a while, and altough it's always animated, drawing the 3d spike chart, and the little graph on top, and flashing text saying "searching for gaussian.." and "best pulse..." and etc, the values are always the same there.
And the climate prediction one is similar. The background stars effect goes fluidly, the words "climate prediction" wander from side to side, and I can spin the globe as I wish or switch to any of the views like the pressure or the clouds views but the values don't change.
So, I guess that boinc really pauses the work engines, but keeps their graphic threads working?
I wonder if this is really a bug or maybe a hidden feature... lol
