This is just a heads up for those of you who also run Pirates@home.

One of the work units out now is simply a scrolling telling of "Twas the Night Before Christmas." Keep an eye out for it.

Actually, I noticed mine not working properly, and the new Pirates work units seem to be causing a lot of trouble:

I've received a crap load and most I won't be able to return in time. Most either have problems or I get 0 credit for them. Cheers though!

I've detatched from Pirates because of these units. I can't have my computers held up for hours doing absolutely nothing. Those Christmas units were a nice sentiment, but not when they stall Boinc for an hour apeice.

You idiot...Pirates was never about science. And the credit to be gained from a project with such little amount of work was never going to be great.

The fact that they are there and testing BOINC at this particular time of year is testament to how much they want to see the Distributed Computing project succeed.

To all the guys that have helped out by completing what Pirates WU's they could and to those at Vassar that have been working on the project, Merry Christmas and keep up the good work.

"You idiot...."

Cheery. Someone didn't get any Christmas gifts today!

Of course Pirates wasn't about science. And I didn't mind running it beacause of the incredibly small amount of work given out.

However, when said units screw up Boinc, it's time to go.

So, basically, you're calling me an idiot for detatching from a project so that the real science projects wouldn't be paused by faulty Pirates units. I guess I accidentally entered Bizzaro World on my way home tonight.

Maybe you've always been there and only recently stepped out of it. Welcome to the real world, where nothing is perfect. And certainly nothing is improved without practice/testing.

Don't get mad at me, fella. You started out your post by calling me an idiot for no reason. I'd hate to have to live your life :)

I never trusted the hot food at Dairy Queen. The kitchen always seemed kind of dirty.

Yes, it was a crazy situation with all of those pirates units, which had two different situations:
1- if you were lucky to be in front of your PC and put to work the window of graphics, then the unit was done in more or less 3 minutes.
2- if you were not there and they started running in the normal way without entering into the graphics screen (how coukd you?) then it kept going on for hours on the same unit. By the time you got back home and looked at it, all of the pending units were out of reporting time.

But the problem did not finish there, if it was time for you to go to bed and if you leave those pirates units in your Boinc program, sorry guys! it kept all night stopping the rest of the work. Only possibility just to Detach from project and Reattach later when those units not being send anylonger.

I received 23 of those, was able to return 3 on time, on 2 got no credit, on one got 1.4 credits. But I was lucky!! I was at home and able to see it happen.

Regards to all, and Greetings for the season, here from Spain!
Patience is a virtue.
