Considering MB v7, how far out in light years is v7 able to reach as far as ETI detection? Same question for astropulse? I know my questions may be very naïve but that's the best I can do until I learn. Hopefully here. |

Hello probably about 250 million light years the size of our Galaxy any father than that is pointless even E.T would have troubble travelling to another Galaxy . Any signal out there will travel to the edge of the Cosmos weather or not E.T could pick it up , your guess is as good as any i spose as it would be very , very , very , very , very weak |

At 1000 light years we could most likely only pick up an intentional, high powered, focused beam. Take note that there are not that many stars within 1000 lightyears and that (as far as I know) we ourselves are not sending any such beacon of existence. |

There are perhaps a million stars within 1000 light years, not all of them main sequence. I consider that to be not many in terms of the estimated 300 billion stars in our own Galaxy. We are more likely to catch spurious signals from planets around stars of, say, 100 light years out of which there are perhaps 10,000: again many are not main sequence, non binary which may be requirements for intelligent life. |

Thanks for this input from all. I didn't know that we still talk of main sequence stars? I remember that terminology from the '50's. General question: What are those green stars by some persons names? |

Thanks Gary. Does main sequence exclude pulsars, quasars, binary systems? |

Julie, What does main sequence stars mean to you, if anything? Thanks |

Julie, Hi Merle:) Main sequence stars are stars that are fusing hydrogen atoms to form helium atoms in their cores. This to produce energy of course, which is the basis for all life in the Universe. Our Sun is a G-type main-sequence star. You can see our Sun's position in the diagram below. rOZZ Music Pictures |

Thanks Julie. You look so sad. Don't cry. |

Those must be surface temperatures. Roughly 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit on our Sun. |

Why change? It is very cute, creative and unique; especially with the kitty. I remember about the main sequence from my first book on stars that I loved, back around '50, but I didn't realize it was still in use after all the discoveries that have been made since then. I'm not so sure that we can exclude white dwarfs from being void of any life in their neighborhood. |

If seti were to find ETI, which app would probably be the best bet for being the big winner - MB or AP? |

We don't know that is why we use both. |
