I am running an ati hd 6570 and a hd 7770. I have pcie x16 ver.2.0. and plenty of spare power. I will have an available slot for another x16. What is the next upgrade from the 7770? I can't trust newegg or tigerdirect or even some blogs that I can't be sure of who is giving advice. I Can trust this group with all of the eyes watching. Thanks

You would most likely be looking at one of the R7 versions then.

Those are the low and midrange cards this time around.

So I get my r7 265 in a week or so. What upgrade from there, remembering I just have PCIE 2.0?

Don't ditch your HD 7770 especially if you at some time want to participate in projects which need DP (or use some program that wants/uses DP)

Thanks BilBg,
I read a few of those reviews. Interesting. Somewhere I had noted that the GFlops of 1843 for the R7 265 vs. 1280 for the 7770. That is what decided me to get the r7 265.

I have no intention of getting rid of the 7770, but I think I am going to move my 6570 over to my second machine using the riser. It now has something like a 4650 in it which is processing seti tasks too.

You may have problems with such combination (ask in Number Crunching):
the 'Legacy' drivers that work for 4650 may not work for 6570
and vice versa - the drivers that are needed for 6570 may not work for 4650

Better try your two 6570 in that machine instead of 6570 + 4650

Thanks, I'll do that.
Better still, I think I'll just pull out my 4650 since it won't do single precision in any event. That first 6570 was fried. Nine months - $50.
