Hey Everyone, I don't know how appropriate it is to make a post specifically about a particular cruncher among us, but this time, I just have to ask. Now and then, I check out the statistics and the top users have always been well under one million average credit. The account on top right now is at about 7.5 million average credit. This is simply astounding by all current measurements I've seen. And unfortunately, his computers are hidden. What sorts of beasts do you all figure could be involved in that operation? Are there some secrets to unlocking my current hardware that I don't know about? :D (wishful thinking) What kind of rig(s) do you think is being run over there? |

I think mikeej42 was running just over 1,000,000 when they had their systems at full tilt. Before that we had someone with some 10c/20t CPU systems in 4 and 8 sockets giving their machines a go with SETI@home. That person helped show some bugs/issues with how BOINC handled systems with more than 60 cores IIRC. Always interesting what hardware some people bring to play around and have us drool all over. Thanks everyone for commenting. Wiggo, a data center it seems to be then? Talk about a crunchers dream. Hal, I have never heard of a 10c/20t CPU system. Sounds interesting, I'll have to give that one a google! Is mikeej42 running in some sort of facility then as well? |

Nothing extraordinary about the hardware. He is ussing normal 16 cores Xeon´s servers, but a lot of them... If you where curious take a look on one of his 100´s hosts: Here's a direct link. What is extraordinary is his contribution to the project, with in few days he manage to pass >100MM (actualy by last stats 113MM). He is doing about 8% of the total daily production of the entire project by last Free-DC stats. Hope he keep his farm running for a while. |

Thanks everyone for commenting. You have been able to get 10 core processors for over 3 years now. There are 12 and 15 core ones as well if you prefer. You can see the Intel products on their ARK site. I think mikeej42 worked at a place where they got to worked with the systems when there was free time on them. I dunno. I think this machine is something special. With 40 cpu cores its got to be something unusual. Maybe it has 20 cores plus hyperthreading. Tom A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association). |

I dunno. I think this machine is something special. Double CPU chips on a server motherboard. http://ark.intel.com/products/75279/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E5-2690-v2-25M-Cache-3_00-GHz |

Well, 2 things are apparent; 1) He's running a roomful of Mac Pros 2) He's only using half the CPU cores That can be assumed by his posts, http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_user.php?userid=9906795 Another assumption would be he isn't using any of the GPUs since there Still Isn't a Stock Mac GPU App. I believe I've mentioned that. Someone should write up a script that can easily install the GPU App on multiple machines. Then you might see a real RAC :-) Interesting he can't use more than 8 cores on his Mac. I remember a thread about that somewhere around here. Here it is, New Mac Pro 6 Core and higher I was convinced back then there was a problem with BOINC on a Mac. |

Well, 2 things are apparent; Or they are just running the linux machines they mentioned. SETI@home classic workunits: 93,865 CPU time: 863,447 hours Join the [url=http://tinyurl.com/8y46zvu]BP6/VP6 User Group[ |

he might be running it down when I checked a hour or 2 ago at free-dc it looked like he mite be backing off The stat sites only update about once a day from the dump that the servers do. Yesterday they had a lower number because of maintenance. Since yesterday they have already gained over 14,000,000 credit. Well, 2 things are apparent; This problem only exists with the OS X Seti client... If there is no fix, I'll have to switch away from implementing Seti in our datacenters across the board. Posts by Charles Long Sounds like a bunch of Macs to me. Someone can't read that? He made 3 posts about getting all 16 cores on his 16 core OSX machines to work. Then mentioned his Datacenter machines that are also having the same problem. Seems pretty convincing to me. |
