first of all sorry for my poor english..

Want explain an funny thing that happen when, a lot of time ago, upgrade one of my host from boinc 5.2.8 to 7.0.64..

on date 28 Sep 2009 install boinc 5.2.8 over a machine called "pilgrim"
boinc say:
CPU type: GenuineIntel Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 2.80GHz
Number of processors: 2

..then on date 5 Apr 2013 i upgraded boinc to version 7.0.64 and boinc say:
CPU type: GenuineIntel Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 2.80GHz [Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 9]
Number of processors: 2

..and now have two host with same name that cant merge.. ..
..the question is easy ..why happen this ?
..ok understand why cant merge by name.. different CPU ..but not true ..is boinc client that make them different !

..exist a way to merge ? ..or just patience?

thx
bye

My own experience has been that the "system name" is how Bonic appears to keep track of things. I might be wrong. And I vaguely remember being offered the ability to "merge" two different accounts that referred to the same machine (but the machine had a name change).

BOINC does NOT use your system name, but does use a unique identifier (this number is assigned by the connected project). If you look at my PCs you will they are numbered 7047761, 7085153 & 6452693; I can see their names, but you cannot.

It would be very helpful if your computers weren't hidden as there can be clues as to why two computer can't be merged.

Ok... have understand... so having 2 pc with same name but with different id because
have uninstall old boinc and install new version.. and doing so have registered like a new pc
....oops....
However have changed my conf for showing my pc... (can show also old pc ? Or only active ?)
..still cant understand why cpu info are different & why with vm+boinc make same trouble
...also if at end succeed always to merge a vm with an physical with same name.. boh strange !?
