My impression based on the log is that Seti is happy with ATI cards. The scheduler asks for work for the ATI but nothing comes back.

I poked around and it looks like the 3000 series is supported.

I am getting a fair amount of CUDA downloads on another machine that is running Nvidia cards (gc-wrksta-4). This machine is gc-wrkathm-00

It is an Optiplex 760 which means that I am limited to half-height pci-16 type video cards.

Right now it looks like it would be less trouble to find a Nvidia half height card for it. Right? Or has someone been having any luck at all with ATI cards on Seti at home?

Thanks,
Tom

Almost forgot. Ran across a post that said something about using version 13.1 of the install package for the ATI so tried that. Still not getting any work files. Have also installed version 13.9 no luck there either.

Thanks,

post the first 30 lines from your event log so we can see what it says. Many people run ATI cards, but there are some issues. Mostly with the drivers for them. I'm not as familiar with them but there are others here that know the issues with them.

Device manager claims I have an ATI Radeon HD 3400 (which apparently supports CAL?).

I have two versions of the drivers. Someplace else it mentioned had to use version 13.1 so maybe I need to re-install it, then re-boot the machine and then post the 30 lines from the log. See if the complaint about no "CL" still comes up.

brb.

This is version 13.1 installed after un-installing version 13.7. Ran a registry cleaner between the two. Then did a warm-boot. Here is the log:

It is still complaining so maybe I need a different driver. Or maybe what I was reading that claimed the 3400 is supported is either wrong or I mis-interpreted what I read.

Hmmmm... anyone with some ideas? I have looked at half height Nvidia cards. Looks like $120 or better to replace my video card with something that is on the GPU list (even if it is the very bottom....).

Ok, you might want to wait a bit and see if one of the others has an idea. I know it's still early and lots of them like to come on here late in the night. They might have some good ideas for you. In one the other threads they talk about new projects that don't require CAL. Here's the link

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=74789&postid=1528782

It's up to you if you want to get a NVIDIA but since it's the holiday weekend, why not wait and see what some of the others say first and save some money.

I am pretty stuck on doing Seti on this particular machine. And I am going to wait. Its been running Seti for near 6 months. So its just a matter of 'time'.

I found one more older opencl driver that I will try but otherwise I am looking for advice...

Thanks,

The 3400 doesn't support OpenCL, so the only thing you can run on it is CAL/Brook+
That was ATI's version of GPGPU before they fully embraced OpenCL.

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/apps.php will show you that the only CAL capable application is one for Astropulse. However, your GPU doesn't have enough memory to run that. Minimum requirement on AP is I think 512miB.

Thank you. I have run through all the versions of drivers for that Video card and not found anything that doesn't provide an error about "GPU doesn't do this" or something like that.

I did stumble across a GE Force 210 that was half height on Newegg for $26. So I ordered that. Problem will go away in a week or so.

Thank you everyone for your time on this issue.
