I previously had three AMD GPUs (1x7850 and 2x5770 GPUs)
Today I replaced one of the 5770 GPUs with a R9 280x, so now my system has:

One R9 280x
One 7850
One 5770

Since powering up, all tasks are repeatedly cycling through changing from:
"Waiting to run (0.615 CPUs + 1 ATI GPU)"
to
"Waiting to run (0.615 CPUs + 1 ATI GPU)(Scheduler wait)"

I tried deleting my app_info.xml and restarting (in hopes something from my old configuration needed to be reset - but without the app_info.xml things seem to be worse, since now no CPU tasks have started.

Any ideas what I need to do?

To follow up on my post. I used the Display Driver Uninstaller from Guru3D to clean out all of my old drivers, reinstalled Catalyst 14.4 and uninstalled and reinstalled BOINC and lunatics.

The GPUs are now processing again, although it looks like my system reported over a hundred errors over the past few hours... Ugh!

Had you removed the driver and reinstalled it for the new card? I think it was mentioned recently in another discussion that for a new ATI card to work correctly you have to remove and then reinstall the drivers. Even though the new card is supported by the currently installed driver something does get set correctly somewhere until a new install is preformed.
Weird but, eh, that's computers for ya.

Make sure you have at least one CPU core free.
Better two on your six core.
Your CPU probably can`t feed the 3 GPU`s.

Go to your project folder and delete everything ending with *bin and *wisdom to generate new binaries.

I have a similar problem with my laptop as well. I have a Nvidia GPU. It cycles thru all the GPU work units. The only fix I could find was to suspend all but 1 of the GPU work units. I also suspend all but 1 CPU work units leaving 2 core free. The GPU still will not run until the screen saver comes on, then it will crunch. If I disturb the computer for anything, the screen saver will stop and the GPU will go back to "waiting to run" "Scheduler wait" Should I try the above mention deletions? I finally just got it to run under the above mentioned conditions.

Zalster

Edit..

Sorry forgot to mention. I had detached from the project and rebooted and then reattached and everything was re-downloaded fresh to the computer but still got the above mentioned "waiting to run"

i would change this to no

'In use' means mouse/keyboard activity in last 3 minutes

i would change this to something like 120

Have you also checked all the settings on the screen saver as they have change from to old days i got caught out on that 1

set it to 1min
never
never
never

otherwise a reinstall of video drivers with CLEAN INSTALL and reload Boinic and Lunatics

and that about all i can sugest

That would mean GPU crunching would be disabled for 2 hours after any user activity. A big setting like that would perhaps make sense to watch videos, though.

However, Zalster has local preferences active so the web "Computing preferences" are not being used. "Checked Use GPU while computer is in use" means that the 'In use' time period should not be causing "waiting to run".

Glenn,

I think it's a driver issue. Not sure how to go about correcting it but for now it runs and the results validate so I'll keep muddling through it. I think Joe is correct about the setting should be 1-2 minutes rather than 120. Thanks Glenn and Joe for your help.

If you select Activity > Use GPU always does the GPU run normally?

Hi Hal,

I have that set already on the laptop. Unfortunately, no it does not allow the GPU to run. It still waits for the screensaver to start before it begins to crunch. So I set the laptop in a corner and only check it twice a day so I don't disturb it while it crunches. It has to be the driver. It stops and starts according to the stderr.

I'm sure what is intended, the idea being that if you're actually doing something else with the computer you are likely to use keyboard or mouse often and don't want BOINC starting tasks unless you take a break from the other work. I make no claims regarding how the actual implementation behaves, I've always turned that feature off.

Zalster's issues with actually getting BOINC to run tasks are beyond my understanding.
