Id like to make my two 780s as efficient as possible. I had crashing problems before with the lunatics apps with my 560. Are the lunatics apps too old now? Should I try those?

Should I run 2 or 3 copies on each card?

The Lunatics install is most decidedly the way to go.
Just mind the options when installing it.
Best for man and machine. And kitties.

I run 2 per card. 3 can work, but I have seen enough utilization with 2 per that I don't have to go any further, and it runs very well.

The 780 could handle 3, what you need to see is if you I5 could feed them, i have a 2x780 host powered by a slow & old I5 (the hosts list show you have an I5 too but a faster/newer one), to make the GPu´s work fine i leave running 3 WU at a time if there where MB, or 2 if there where AP, but I don´t do any CPU work, any CPU work slow the entire host. But as allways YMMV, you need to test your GPU usage with 2 and 3 to be sure.

Thank you Juan and msattler,

The kitties are happier at 90-95% gpu usage with 2 copies per card.

Before with stock apps and 1 per card it was in the 50-60% range.

It looks like my i5 can keep up with no other CPU tasks going. I do have it at a mild OC of 4.2 Ghz so that might help a little.

Some others could not agree, but OC the CPU does not help to much with the feed of the GPU´s, the big limitation is the PCIe bandwidth, keep your cores free and keep your CPU cold, you will get a lot more success than simple OC the CPU and reach the temperature shoot down. You could easely crunch 6 WU at a time on a 2x780 host powered by an slow and few cores I5 nad reach almost 80K or more of RAC on it.

Look this host for example:
