Not sure what you're asking. I think you're asking how you can use your Windows 7 machine to deliver work to your two XP machines, presumably because you don't want them on the internet since their support has now ended. Short answer is you can't easily. Each machine must have an internet connection to retrieve work. You could turn your Windows 7 machine into an internet router, but then that's no different than having your XP machines connecting to your home router. The only way you can make this happen is if you stop BOINC on the Windows 7 machine, then install another copy of BOINC into a different directory for both BOINC Program and BOINC Data, retrieve work into this new installation, stop the processing of workunits, copy both of the new BOINC Program and Data folders over to the XP machine. Then do it all over again for the second XP machine. Then you can finally return to crunching on the Windows 7 machine. Then when you want to return results, you'd have to reverse the process; stopping BOINC on Windows 7, coping the BOINC Program and Data folders from the XP machines into separate folders on the Windows 7 machine being careful not to overwrite your existing folders, return the work and download more, and rinse and repeat for the second XP machine. It really is not worth it. Being that most anti-virus companies are still supporting XP for at least another year, it shouldn't be much of an issue to keep them protected from most threats. It also helps that most routers are NAT-T with SPI firewalls built in, as long as the XP machines are only connecting to BOINC projects, you should be pretty safe overall. |

Exactly what I intended to ask. Tks for full answer. I was hoping I could transmit new tasks by copying to a flash drive. And reverse output again thru a flash drive.. Too much to hope. Will strip everything else and connect as reqd. |

Unfortunately it isn't that simple. You have to keep the folder structure intact as there are various other files required beyond just the workunits themselves. |

Why not simply install a proxy server on the Windows 7 machine and tell the BOINC clients on the XP machines to connect via that proxy? That's the way i would do it... Free local proxy: http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/Network/proxy/Freeware.htm Aloha, Uli |
