Interesting read, NASA forcing congress to get off their butts and fund NASA a bit more is a good thing. Probably before your time but this opened our eyes. It was easy to see with the necked eye as it flew over. You know your getting old when you don't have to learn history because you lived it. No I didn't see the Wright Brothers first flight. |

Batter, I was in the 7th grade when sputnik was launched so remember it well. I was in the third grade but I too remember it well. It spurred an emphasis on math and the sciences in the public schools for a little while. I lived in Florida even then and remember watching a lot of rockets explode. Dude, I'm an ugly American and only do English. I was just wondering if mini skirts are the usual dress in a combat zone? It was for Mata Hari. |

Dude, I'm an ugly American and only do English. Strange associations! Well, I explain... Checkpoints, now, built along entire territory Ukraine, from the Polish border - to the Russian border in the East (Lvov, Kiev, Odessa, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Donetsk, Lugansk and all other cities and towns)! Armed clashes and bullets which fly - not everywhere! This woman moving along the road in his car... at the checkpoint - asked to open the trunk of a car for inspection... she began to to resent! Worldly situation... We have hundreds of such young ladies! What do you not understand, Batter Up? Or women in the U.S. dressed in space suits? :) :) :) |

Well I guess we'll soon know if Vlad's good for his words. Vlad orders troops near Ukraine to return home. President Vladimir Putin on Monday ordered troops deployed near Ukraine to return to their home bases and praised the launch of a dialogue between the Ukrainian government and its opponents even as fighting continued in the eastern parts of the country. Cheers. |

"Russia vows to remove its troops from Ukrainian border “within a few days' ", but "...as of yesterday, NATO and the U.S. did not confirm the withdrawal of Russian troops" http://www.ukrinform.ua/eng/news/russia_vows_to_remove_its_troops_from_ukrainian_border_within_a_few_days_321664 and at the same time: "Russia Will Hold Massive Air Drill Along Ukraine Border On Ukraine Presidential Election Day (note - 25 May 2014)" http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-05-15/russia-will-hold-massive-air-drill-along-ukraine-border-ukraine-presidential-electio Everyone is waiting an enemy attack on our country! Is man-portable air-defense systems (MANPAD) standard equipment for Russian journalists when they are working in a war zone abroad? Of course, janneseti! How without them... : ) KYIV, May 19 /Ukrinform/. Ukrainian law enforcement agencies are preparing to charge so-called "journalists" from Russia Oleg Sidyakin and Marat Saychenko detained in Donbass, who, instead of covering the real events, were involved in information support of terrorist groups. Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council Viktoria Siumar wrote this on her Facebook page. "Promoting terrorism, conspiracy with terrorists, terrorism assistance - is not journalism. "Win-win cooperation" with the people who kill and take hostages is a crime. And the corresponding conclusions regarding Sidyakin and Saychenko are being now prepared by Ukrainian law enforcement agencies. Unlike Ukrainian journalists who remain captive, they will be treated in accordance with laws. But things should be called as they are, it's not journalists, this is the information support of terrorist groups," she said. Siumar noted that Russia's so-called "journalists" not just got video from terrorists, but also accompanied the terrorist groups, and filmed the attacks on the Ukrainian militaries. "De facto, they are part of terrorist groups. Their video, which will soon appear on the Internet, is a direct evidence," she said. As Ukrinform reported, journalists of the Kremlin TV project LifeNews Oleg Sidyakin and Marat Saychenko, who on May 18 were filming the preparations for fire on Kramatorsk airfield by terrorists, have been detained by Ukrainian troops. See http://www.ukrinform.ua/eng/news/siumar_ukraine_preparing_punishment_for_russian_journalists_321610 ------------------------- KYIV, May 20 /NEWSru.ua/ LifeNews employees recognized that they are not really journalists - SBU! Well after many years absent these halls I've spent all night trudging through this thread from start to finish and allow me to sum this up for you all. The Ukraine does not exist. Never really has, at least not as you thought it was meant to. It's at least two countries. The western part is closest to the Ukraine that the West wants to exist and the predominantly Russian parts to the south and east that have been linked strongly with Russia for hundreds of years. This whole showdown stems from that split that flares from a violent coup (possibly CIA backed) ousting a democratic government. Leads to unrest in the areas that strongly backed the government. The West strangely quick to back the new interim government while Kremlin backs the Russian areas of Ukraine. There is a peaceful (somewhat at least) democratic secession of the autonomous region of Crimea. I take this to be an accurate reflection of the will of the Crimean people as there has been no resistance. Meanwhile in other parts of the country the interim government has had trouble controlling the armed forces with military and police sometimes siding pro-Russian. The situation in some places has neared outbreak of civil war except the lack of concerted military effort by Ukraine forces keeps outright war from breaking out. And the whole time it's a fascinating little news story. EDIT: auto correct typo. Kolch - Crunching for the BOINC@Australia team since July 2004. Search for your own intelligence... |

What do you not understand, Batter Up?Europe. In the US of A if a state National Guard set up a road block and the Commander-in-Chief didn't like it he would lock their heels and order them to stand down. In 1962 the Arkansas Guard wasn't given a chance to say boo. They were federalized and ordered to practice making their bunks. Eisenhower federalized the National Guard and ordered them to return to their barracks. Eisenhower then deployed elements of the 101st Airborne Division to Little Rock to protect the students. Eisenhower's actions were considered, by many southerners, to be a second invasion by Federal troops. The Guard may not have liked it but they obeyed orders. There can only be one commander if a country wants an effective defense. |

But very much reality! Seems to me that the reality for me is vastly different than for anyone living in the Ukraine. It is apparently different depending on if you get your news from AP or RT. It is wildly different than any other reality if you're a former Alaskan Governor named Palin. I should also add I have been highly troubled by the way this has been viewed by the Western world and its press. I don't see Putin as some terrible tyrant that must be cut down and held to account. To be fair, Russia has behaved rather well throughout this whole situation IMHO. Kolch - Crunching for the BOINC@Australia team since July 2004. Search for your own intelligence... |

fascinating little news story. Please Yulie, go vote on EU elections this Sunday and show that Europe's people care about the situation so that Putin can not be given a free hand to do as he pleases. |
