Amazon rainforest grew after climate change 2,000 years ago: study

(Reuters) - Swathes of the Amazon may have been grassland until a natural shift to a wetter climate about 2,000 years ago let the rainforests form, according to a study that challenges common belief that the world’s biggest tropical forest is far older.

The arrival of European diseases after Columbus crossed the Atlantic in 1492 may also have hastened the growth of forests by killing indigenous people farming the region, the scientists wrote in the U.S. journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).

Mitsui O.S.K. to pioneer Arctic route for LNG

Officials from shipping giant Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd. announced Wednesday their company will begin transporting liquefied natural gas through the Arctic Ocean in 2018 — making it the first company in the world to tap the sea as a regular transit route.

Using icebreakers and tankers, the company plans to deliver LNG shipments to Europe and Asia from a gas plant to be built on the Yamal Peninsula in northern Russia, where gas producer Novatek is engaged in a joint LNG venture.

The Arctic Ocean route has long attracted attention as the shortest shipping route linking Europe and Asia. While it has so far been used occasionally during summer, the rapidly retreating ice shelf has made regular shipping via the route a realistic proposition.

China says that global warming has reduced the area of frozen ground on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau by 16%.

What are THEY doing to reduce THEIR co2 emissions?

Seems to be self-serving, to reduce Western Economy's and Increase Theirs.

Of course. That's capitalism in action. Gain an advantage over your competitor. Make gain on his weakness.

Now let's get the World Community, The UN, and ALL The Greens to take on China!

Don't hold your breath.

China has lots of zygotes, so they outvote the greens. After all democracy is perfect.

Just asking The UN, Greens, etc., to focus their 'energy' against China.

I'm not holding my breath.

"energy" = explosive?
