Message 1471651 - Posted: 1 Feb 2014, 16:49:26 UTC

Hi,
Not sure this is the right place to ask this kind of questions but I installed the Boinc software on Windows7 computer yesterday (Snow) but it is not receiving any work units. It just sits there waiting which is a waste of time I think.

Why is this? Anyone else having this kind of problem?

/Regards M

Please post a connect to portion of the event log, where it shows what BOINC gets for an answer when it asks for work. Event Log is at CTRL+SHIFT+E in BOINC Manager.

Message 1471765 - Posted: 1 Feb 2014, 23:58:15 UTC - in response to Message 1471734.

That log segment doesn't show any information about BOINC asking for work and the project answering.

What I look for is something akin to:
01/02/2014 22:59:26 | SETI@home | [sched_op] Starting scheduler request
01/02/2014 22:59:26 | SETI@home | Sending scheduler request: To fetch work.
01/02/2014 22:59:26 | SETI@home | Requesting new tasks for ATI
01/02/2014 22:59:26 | SETI@home | [sched_op] CPU work request: 0.00 seconds; 0.00 devices
01/02/2014 22:59:26 | SETI@home | [sched_op] ATI work request: 128.34 seconds; 0.00 devices
01/02/2014 22:59:28 | SETI@home | Scheduler request completed: got 1 new tasks
01/02/2014 22:59:28 | SETI@home | [sched_op] Server version 703
01/02/2014 22:59:28 | SETI@home | Project requested delay of 303 seconds

And as you can see, my machine asks for and gets work without a problem.
So, what does your BOINC say about it?

Message 1471834 - Posted: 2 Feb 2014, 3:43:45 UTC - in response to Message 1471814.

2014-02-01 10:18:38 | SETI@home | Not requesting tasks: don't need

If BOINC says "don't need" then it won't get work.
To be able to see why not, please do the following:

Open Notepad and add into it:
<cc_config>
<log_flags>
<sched_op_debug>1</sched_op_debug>
</log_flags>
</cc_config>

Do Save As..., and fill in:
File Name cc_config.xml
Save as type All files
Encoding ANSI
Save directory C:\ProgramData\BOINC

Open Windows Explorer and insert C:\ProgramData\BOINC as the path to go to (just right-click on the path bar, delete what's in there and either type or paste C:\ProgramData\BOINC then hit Enter. This directory is hidden, but if you just tell Windows Explorer where to go to, it'll go there.)
Check that the only extension on cc_config.xml is the .xml extension, not that Notepad still added .txt to the end. If you find it did, right-click on the file and choose Rename. Then remove the .txt part, including the dot, and save the filename (Enter).

Next open BOINC Manager, Advanced menu, Read config files.
BOINC manager, Projects tab, select Seti, click Update.
CTRL+SHIFT+E, copy the relevant part of the log and post that here.

from cc_config.xml

<project_config>
<name>SETI@home</name>
<master_url>http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/</master_url>

<sched_stopped>0</sched_stopped>
<platforms>

a) That's not information that is in cc_config.xml
b) I am not even sure how you got that, as it looks like it's from the project_config.xml file, that a user does not need, as it's something that runs on the BOINC server.
c) It's nice information, but I never asked for it.
d) What's so difficult about adding a bit of log that shows what BOINC asks for and Seti answers?
