I managed to install a Third ~150 watt card in the Mac. This should push it up a little. I removed the rear two HDDs and used this adapter;

This is the results;

Slot 1: PowerColor 6850
Slot 2: PowerColor 6870
Slot 4: XFX 6850

Well, it made it to #25. So close to the front page :-)

Unfortunately, it just peaked at 80k. Which usually means it's about out of work :-(

Hmmm, I still have 1 PCIe slot in there...

Looks as though Dave has figured out how to get the most from his Mac, Computer 7206136. Let's see, around 24 minutes per AP....that would be around 60 APs a day per card....or 84k per day. IF you could keep it fed, and not be overwhelmed by those Horribly Blanked APs. Not bad for a Mac.

Too bad you need to be a Computer Science Major to get the current Mac AP App to work on your Mac....

Have you seen the new iMacs? I was just browsing through them and notice something I hadn't really paid attention to before. They are calling it FusionDrive.

Drive combines a high-capacity hard drive with high-performance flash storage, so disk-intensive tasks — like booting up and importing photos — are faster and more efficient.

Looks like they have been listening to all these discussions about which drive is preferable. They may have had this for a while but I really never noticed it till now. Would be interesting to see how it performs. Oh yeah, well maybe as a test bed then. LOL

So they are taking advantage of Intel's Smart Response Technology that they build into the chipset, or are they just using hybrid hard drives now?

Not sure, I'd need to go down to the local apple store and talk to the one guy there who actually knows what he's talking about. Old salt like me that remembers the days of the Performa, lol..I'll do some more research into it, was hoping someone here knew more.

I just check the wikipedia and it looks like the Apple Fusion Drive is a hybrid drive, or SSHD. Then some software that moves things around automagically.
From what I have read so far it seems like a defrag operation sorting files my use.

Hmm. I have no idea on this. TBar or one others might have more experience might have a idea or 2. How were you trying to run the OSX. I found this article. Don't know if it will help.

http://lifehacker.com/5938332/how-to-run-mac-os-x-on-any-windows-pc-using-virtualbox

Just read that article, kind of like building a Hackintoish, lol

For Hal, I found this about the FusionDrive

http://www.macworld.com/article/2013805/fusion-drive-an-overview.html

I'm sorry I couldn't be more help Glenn.

Edit.. Congratulations to TBar for having his machine listed as #20 on the Top Machines...

Thanks for that Java Box was my next thing I was going to try seeing as it's not happening in VM Ware

I just hope it's not what I have read so far that AMD Kernel is not as compatible as intel not serprising seeing as Intel was supplying there core 2 chips to Apple
probably wink wink copy'd a bit of code from here or there

when I saw this thread I thought mmm so you must be able to run Mac OSX on a AMD
as some have already done a Hackintosh with AMD oh well i'll sort it out

TBar's AMD part of the title should've indicated better that he meant the video cards used and not the CPU.

Apple's OS code these days is specifically written for Intel CPU's so how you'd get around that to run on an AMD CPU, even in a VM environment, would be a serious challenge I expect.

Cheers.

I missed that part about it's an AMD CPU, I thought he meant AMD card..Yeah,Wiggo right..It has to be an intel chip. Sorry about that.

I've heard before (and saw an article on a review website..don't remember which, now) that you can actually run OSX on an AMD CPU. It just has to have SSE2 and I think it was.. Snow Leopard? I got curious and went to try it myself and then found out the CPU I was using didn't actually have SSE2, which is why I was getting 'kernel panic... system halted' during the installation. Gave up at that point.

I got Maverick to work until I updated the op then I got what you said

The snow leopard version I got wouldn't work on a 64 bit system but 32 bit ok with intel chip . However when I got the 64 bit of darwin.iso it worked under 64 bit with intel chip but I can not get it going on the AMD and I don't get the Kernal panic it just wont load
but i'll keep trying it does work but is problamactic from what I have read
